Interesting Graves At The Cemetery
Roaming around the cemetery and looking at the graves makes us wonder about the people buried there and their lives as well.
This is the grave of a bishop. It was surprising for me to see a pelican on the headstone, so I ran a search. Did you know that the pelican symbolizes the sacrifice of Christ on the cross? I didn't, but I know now.
There's no need to hunt these unusual graves, there are all over the place. This is one of them. Wooden frame, filled with small white stones with a streak in the middle filled with green plants and just a small plate at the top of the grave.
Flower pots are usually placed on the grave or beside the grave. this one however is attached to the headstone. I don't know about you but I like it. It's well taken care of and looks great. Those little angels are beautiful as well. As you can see, there is a photo on the marble stone. This is usual for this region.

Where is this cemetery? It is very interesting and unusual.
It's in tg m, reformed Christian cemetery.
When I'm in the area, I will surely visit this place.
My favorite headstone is in the Hollywood Memorial Cemetery. A simple black stone at Mel Blanc's grave gives his name and the dates of his life, along with, "That's All, Folks." If you don't recognize Blanc's name, he voiced many of Warner Bros. cartoon characters, including Porky Pig, who typically ended WB cartoons with a stuttered version of that line.

Scott and I have a fascination with the World of Woodsman burial plots. They look like trees, ricks of wood, and such. We find these in a lot of really old cemeteries. Definitely some interesting lives out there.

I was just in a cemetery yesterday, and I remember thinking, I should come back and take pictures another time. Some of the structures that are in there are truly amazing.

Wonderful cemetery photos! I love that planter! It's almost like a window box. Someone must water it every day.
You know, old people very often go to the cemetery to take care of the grave and flowers. Some go a couple of times a week, some every day. it helps them deal with the loss of their loved once.
Here you can see little wooden benches next to the grave, people often sit down and talk to the people buried there. I'm gonna post photos with benches for you to see. Made sure I took some because I knew you might like them :)
The benches are such a good idea. I think that here they are so often concerned about keeping the cemeteries looking lovely and the grass mowed properly that they forget about the comfort of people who want to visit.
Indeed! Cemeteries over there are so different, like created by architectures. I'm gonna prepare the post for tomorrow morning.

Lovely photos, I really like the third one. Check this out, I took this today. The middle stone... he was a bishop, an archbishop, and he was murdered somewhere in Alaska in 1886!
Thank you Keith for posting this amazing photo. I've never seen a grave with three stones, like yours. Here at the cemetery you lease a place of a certain surface, usually the same for everyone and that's why you see almost identical graves. In the past this was different. People had more space to do graves as they liked. Now most of the cemeteries are full and lack of space is a huge problem.
Cremation is not very popular here, people are buried in coffins, that requires a certain amount of space.
It's a small space outside a cathedral, not a regular cemetery. I think all three of these stones have to do with the history of the church.
Oh, that explains a lot.
