Travelogue: Amsterdam (Part Two)
Day two of our stay in the beautiful city of Amsterdam was a wet one. Never have I been in a place where it can rain so abruptly. One minute the sun can be shining the next minute, torrential rain.
Today we traveled to Central Station to purchase a seven day transit pass. This gives you access to canal boats, subways, trams, trains, and busses for around 36 Euros each. We found the process of purchasing pass this complex and confusing compared with buying a transit pass in London. Here in Amsterdam they have what seems like an endless array of options...passes with the train option, without the train option, intercity only, etc. and you have to go to a different counter for many of them.
Once we figured out exactly how and where to purchase the transit pass we needed (7 day pass with all options), it was well worth it. We’re certainly getting our money’s worth out of it so far.
It was still raining so we wanted to find something to do inside. After a little help from our trusty Citymapper app we found the tram we needed to travel to Foodhallen in the Oud-West borough. Foodhallen has a variety of food stalls and shops to browse, it even houses movie theaters.
The weather cleared up a bit in the afternoon and we just set out and explored, taking many of the pictures in the slideshow above along the way. We walked well into the night, clocking in at a total of about eight miles by the time we made it back to the Airbnb.
This city of Amsterdam and its people have a way of getting into your blood. It's such a tolerant and friendly city...that is unless you step into the bike lane at the wrong time. They take their biking very seriously. A couple of days of staying in our Airbnb with access to neighborhood pubs, restaurants, and grocery stores gives you a real taste of what it’s like to live here. We have a lot more time here and many more experiences to share. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
Now, to go put my feet up. They really ache from walking all day in those big orange wooden shoes (pictured in the slideshow above).
Greetings from Amsterdam!

Let’s Keep In Touch

So incredibly awesome! Traveling is the best part of life, particularly after 40, when it's really the only way to have a newness of sensations wash over. And I love your sing choice for that video!
Thanks! Yes, the first visit to any new destination makes me feel like a child on Christmas morning! This second trip was nice though because we got to know it on a deeper level. For me it takes about three visits before I feel like I really know a destination. We achieve this stage with Montreal this past September. It'll probably be my last time back there for a while.
Hi Eric, thank you for sharing your experiences on this blog. What an extraordinary city Amsterdam is. I love the big orange shoes that you put on, Eric. Very beautiful. Are there no orange shoes sold according to normal human size? I think it can be a good souvenir. The city of Amsterdam is much colored by orange paint. Extraordinary. The buildings look a bit old-fashioned but very beautiful. Enjoy your day, sir.
You're welcome! I'm glad you're enjoying the pictures. I think they do sell wooden shoes in normal sizes but I'm afraid of splinters. : ) I hope you enjoy your week, Eliana!
Amsterdam is the place to go wow incredible to see that
What a beautiful Amsterdam. I like this orange city. I hope you enjoy your trip, Sir.
