Thaler is the German word for Dollar.
The Maria Theresa Thaler is considered one of the worlds finest engraved coins. Its history is very interesting and dating back to queen Maria Theresa of Austria. With a purity of .833 it is the only silver coin that has been minted contiuously since 1780 for trade and as money.
The coin was adopted throughout the middle east, including Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Muscat and Oman, in Africa, especially in Ethiopia, and in India.

The Maria Theresa Thaler continues to be produced by the Austrian Mint, and is available in both proof and uncirculated conditions.
Maria Theresa (Maria Theresa Walburga Amalia Christina) was born 13th May 1717 Of The House of Hapsburg. She was married at 6 years old to Prince Clemens of Lorraine and widowed not long afterwards. She was then Engaged to Fredericl of Prussia.
She married Francis prince of Lorraine.
Maria Theresa and her husband, Francis I had eleven daughters, including the Queen of France, the Queen of Naples and Sicily, the Duchess of Parma, and five sons, including two Holy Roman Emperors, Joseph II and Leopold II. Of the sixteen children ten survived to adulthood
On 17th October 1740 she was crowned Queen of Austria and began her 40 year reign till her death in 1780
All Thalers minted after that date bear the date 1780x denoting it was minted after her death.
