What will the next 10 years bring for steemit?

10 years is a long time, and no one can predict the future. So this is my prediction for steemit in 10 years' time.

In writing this I am engaging in the impossible: making the impossible possible, if you will.

But not really. The odds are that what I write here will be wrong by orders of magnitude.

Still, I think it worth a go if only to continue the conversation with @nolnocluap begun in the comments section of my post from 2 days ago:

https://steemit.com/steemit/@drwom/why-i-want-to-be-a-whale-an-insight-into-the-phenomena-of-steemit-love

@nolnocluap asked what I thought the future would be for steemit. Actually, to be precise, he asked my thoughts on the long term sustainability of steemit.

It's quite the question, isn't it?

Certainly one worth pondering.

So I shall begin my consideration by setting some parameters around how I will approach this, by way of broad brush strokes depicting the lay of the land in 10 years's time.

  1. Blockchain has swept the board in web development and web-based business (and therefore business generally). Old players, unwilling to significantly modify their brands and still-profitable business models are declining.
  2. Blockchain technology has enabled everything from driverless cars to the first implanted electronic devices in humans (using nanotechnology).
  3. Fiat currency is still utilised but the amount in circulation set by reserve banks is beginning to decline. Nation states are in varying degrees of progress in the implementation of blockchain currencies.
  4. Bitcoin is the gold standard of crypto currencies and blockchain. BTC is locked in virtual vaults and is routinely referred to in contract and mortgage clauses with regard to payments and collateral.
  5. Other altcoins, including not a few yet to be developed, have successfully disrupted a range of economic, governance and social business models and modes of operation.
  6. The alt coins which have succeeded are those with a viable foundation, a plan to succeed, an effective business model to work to, and a product which is demonstrably useful and which works.
  7. Some altcoins have attained the competitive edge reserved for those with first mover status who achieved economic/market/social disruption. These altcoins have increased enormously in value.
  8. Steem is one of the altcoins riding the success generated by first mover status and constant innovation as typified by the SMT release in 2017. SMTs have been utilised by many media industry players, reviving loyal readership and viewers etc.

Given this, where does steemit stand?

Steemit had a steady user-growth period from 2017. As steemit take-up increased, it slowly drove an increase in the value of steem - with the value of powered-up steem in steemit accounts increasing in parallel.

Because steemit is a social media platform, there came a point (1 million users? 2? 10 million?) when critical mass was achieved and suddenly everybody knew somebody who was making serious coin through steemit, and everyone else was finding out about it through social media.

By 2027 steemit communities attract every demographic and cover every interest. Regular steemit users post regularly to a number of different communities.

Most early adopters who joined the steemit community in 2017 (or before) are very glad they did.

Is it just a dream? Probably.

And yet...

A plausible one.

I hope the dream will become reality and in case the SMT Tokens are a success we might even see that happen rather earlier than later ;)

Well and in case it doesn´t take off, then we´ve at least had a good time after all, meeting new people from all over the world :)

Hey, I'm cool with sooner!

Yeah - steemit's great for meeting people isn't it?

Thanks for the post mate

Brilliant @drwom. Well considered. What I hope is that as the platform grows, we don't see a degradation in the caliber of users and content. It would be a shame if steemit degraded into the typical Facebook "photograph my lunch" style posts as I think that'd be a shame.

Thanks for putting so much thought into my question!

Thanks for asking 🙃

I so hear you about the lunch pics - but what the hey? if there's a community for it, and they enjoy it in that community, then why not - as long as I don't have to see and read about soggy noodles that taste like soap.

@drwom If you can DREAM It, you can BE It !!!

It’s an interesting take. I am worried that STEEM might flounder and get overtaken by another similar concept if these bugs are not ironed out. I am all in still though and have confidence it will be a winner.

Omg, it scares me to think about the next 10 years!

Hahaha
I know right? I was imagining my 8 year old as I wrote.. OMGods - she'll be 18!

You have a child? Congrats! Yep, can you believe it, I can not even imagine life over 10 years, there will be so much changes. 10 years ago I was not not evwn thinking of using laptops or that there will be smartphones. Or that I'll be graduating an university. If you are interested in the potential changes in future, you can read this article, it has a very possible outcome: https://www.forbes.com/sites/rodnturner/2017/04/19/entrepreneurs-how-to-define-your-future-in-the-exponential-age/#3294fca0474f

Interesting prediction @drwom. Looking forward to the future.

Its just my 4 day here in steemit but so far my experience has been pretty good. I hope this big dream comes true.

Awesome post @drwom the next 10 years ! I cant think how this is going to grow in the next year , so lets all dream it

It's great if your prediction become reality and i think these all predictions are much closer to the reality great work and a valuable post @drwom
