Keeping Your Words

In this part of the world where I come from, many people do not keep to their words. This is always painful as I hardly get to have faith or trust in them. The reason why many people don't keep to their words here is because, they don't want to hurt your feelings when you make requests. But the truth is, they hurt the feelings more when they don't do what they say they will do.

There are many reasons why you should learn to keep your words and the most important of them all is "Trust". When you always keep to your words, people begins to have trust in you. And that will always make them have respect towards you because many people hardly keep to their words.

Having a clear conscience is a more reason why you should keep to your words. When I don't keep to my words, my conscience begins to trouble me. This is a more reason why I must keep to my words in order to avoid a troubled conscience. Lastly, people who tend to keep to their words are seen as people that are responsible.

So friends, don't say yes to what you know you won't do simply because you don't want to hurt people's feelings. It is better to say no than let them rely on you, thereby wasting their time. Let your yes be yes and your no be no.

@donefezy, very interesting post. I grew up in Bulgaria. It is a small country in southern Europe. We were educated at school to stick to our words and to fulfill our promises. So, I think in Europe most of the people will not accept lies and someone lying to them.

Wow, that's good to know. I think that's what we lack here in Africa, more emphasis should be laid about keeping to promises in school. When children get to learn this from a tender age, it will get use to them.
