Importance of Trees in our Environment

in #nature6 years ago (edited)
Growing up while I was a child, I remembered how there were so many trees around my environment. Fast forward to this day, there are fewer trees compared to before. The fast growing economy has resulted to humans felling most of the trees around us.

Since recent years, climate scientist have been hammering on the importance of planting trees due to the advent of global warming. Global warming is the gradual rise in the earth's atmosphere temperature as a result of the reduction in the amount of oxygen compared to that of carbon dioxide present in the air. There are so many importance of trees in our environment and I will be discussing about a few in this post.

The most vital benefit of trees in our environment is helping to regulate the earth's climate change. When there is excess of CO2 in the atmosphere, it results in global warming as discussed earlier on. Trees helps in taking in CO2 and releasing Oxygen that is required by humans into the atmosphere in a process known as respiration. This helps in regulating and balancing the earth's climate by making the temperature cool and favourable to living things.

Trees also helps in purification of the earth's atmosphere by absorbing odours and pollutant gases such as nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, ozone and ammonia from the air. In return, the trees releases fresh purified oxygen back into the environment that is beneficial to humans and animals.

Trees cools the environment around us by providing shades for our homes, serving as obstruction to wind and the release of water vapour into the atmosphere. Trees are also known to conserve the soil water by providing shades.

From the agricultural aspect, trees helps prevent erosion during the raining season by slowing down running water and holding the soil in place. Trees are also known for reducing the exposure of the human skin to UV-B rays of the sun which can trigger cancerous cells in the skin.

Trees also provides fruit for humans and this fruits also serves as food to birds and wildlife. One of the most commonly use of trees is in the field of medicine. There are about 60,000 species of trees in the world. Although, many of the trees may be poisonous to humans but many species have been used in the filled of medicine to help treat various diseases as they contain thousands of phytochemicals and organic compounds.

Lastly, trees makes the environment beautiful as they come in varieties of colours. They are also used in making beautiful furnitures that we use in beautifying our homes. Trees also provides income as they are being sold when fell.

After reading this post, remember to plant a tree in your home if you don't have any. Let's join hands in making the earth's atmosphere favourable to us all. Thanks for reading.
