Punished For Leaving A Bad Review

Leaving a review online for a business that you've had a negative experience with is a risky decision to make. Although there are millions of reviews that can be found online today, there is a growing number of people who have been punished for it.
Bad reviews can quickly sink a business and it's understandable why any business owner or individual might want to protect what's valuable to them, especially from fraudulent attacks.

For some families, they've had to pay tens of thousands of thousands of dollars in legal bills after they left a negative review online. And for those who have been punished for sharing their feedback with the online community, they admit that it's discouraged them now entirely from ever leaving a review again.
It might be a Facebook post, Youtube video, tweet, or comment that's been posted on some other platform. It's difficult for many users these days to know exactly what will be problematic and what won't, even if they are telling the truth about an incident that took place. The prevalence of people who have been penalized for their speech is a problem because it discourages people from speaking and sharing the truth, out of fear.

If a business is acting wrongly or mistreating people for example, if they operate a dirty establishment, or kept getting your order wrong, or ripped you off, etc, they'll fail a lot faster if that information is shared with other people. It will likely influence their buying choices to go to another establishment. And if people cannot share their stories then we have no natural way of finding out the truth, do we? Because mistakes would be covered up and any form of criticism would be punished. This sort of environment might seem to protect businesses, but it threatens the community because it silences them and protects wrongdoing that could harm them.
For those who do want to post a negative review online, it's been suggested that they put in extra effort to properly distinguish fact from opinion and to try and have evidence to support their claims that they are making in the review. Even then though, you still could find yourself paying thousands of dollars to settle the dispute.
I think it is all our duty to share our positive and especially negative experiences. Telling the truth, being fair, and standing behind what you say is hugely important.
Personally doitvolunatarily I find that speaking feedback is far better than writing it. This is because the written word is open to misinterpretation which then can change everything for the worse. So I never leave anything negative online. If I want to say something open and honest I like to say it as diplomatically as possible.
It is important to tell the truth, be transparent, and use the proper tone!
