IBM Giving Away 1,500 Drones

In some cases there are drones that have caused a problem for rescue efforts following natural disasters, but there are many instances where they have provided a great deal of value for search and rescue missions, delivering life-saving equipment, and more.

To try and help speed up innovation in this area, IBM is giving away 1,500 DJI Tello drones as part of its Developer Drone Drop 2019 contest that launched last week. They hope developers will use the drones to create innovative solutions that can help respond after natural disasters take place.

This is the second year in a row that they will be doing this initiative, giving away over 1,000 drones.

Company representatives have asserted that they believe that this technology can help humanity and they want this giveaway to help inspire people to use this technology to help address different problems that humanity faces. Developers from the UK, Spain, Canada, and the US, are able to enter.

Drones have already been used to help with search and rescue missions following earthquakes, drones have also proven useful after hurricanes; they can help to put eyes in the sky and assist in assessing damage and more.

Drones have been considered the future of disaster relief, and when authorized to help rescuers etc, they've proven to be vastly beneficial in helping to save time, money, and other resources.

Whether delivering life-saving equipment or helping to find someone that's missing, their use could mean the difference between life or death. When teams are incapable of traveling to a certain area that might be too dangerous, or they need a better view of the situation, it's good that they have advanced tools like this available to assist them.

Ah.. not available in asia.

Oh this is cool, thx for letting me know. Thought, you did trick me with the phantom in the image and it just being the terllo. But whatever, a free drone is a free drone. Lets see if I win it and then lets see if I can do anything with it.

And submitted. Now to wait to hopefully win the drone.

i hope you win too! that'd be awesome 😄😄

drones have also been used to deliver drugs to prisons
and kill innocent people half a world away.

So, do we help this front company develop advanced war machines?
Would it stop if we didn't help them?

Well, it is the thousands of independent people that come up with an innovation that a hundred "top" designers cannot. So, more bots in more hands is a good idea if you want innovation.
