Are Grandma and Grandpa The Most Likely Crowd To Embrace Weed?

in #weed5 years ago

A recent study confirms that seniors are still the fastest growing segment of cannabis users in the United States. This is people who at least 65 years old or more, various reports have shown that they've been increasingly adopting cannabis use for a myriad of different illnesses and reasons.

Despite being exposed to decades of misinformation and propaganda attacks against cannabis, we see that increasingly seniors are willing to try it out for themselves.

This is a crowd that suffers from a wide variety of illnesses and if they are able to drop opioids and other medications for natural and arguably safer alternatives then that is only going to be for their benefit. Cannabis has been shown to improve quality of life for people both young and old, bringing them peace when they'd otherwise be suffering without any option for remedy.

It has become so prevalent with seniors that now assisted living facilities and other senior homes etc, have had to consider what changes they might make to their policies to allow cannabis consumption on the grounds. If anything, cannabis could possibly make these facilities safer, by improving the health and wellness of tenants living there. This is because individuals who are living in such facilities have been known to suffer abuse at the hands of fellow tenants.

For some who use cannabis to help with their pain or other symptoms, they aren't new to the plant. You can find many seniors who have been using it to heal for decades now. And their stories have helped to spread the positive reality, the truth that there is much that can be gained from utilizing all that this plant has to offer.

For many seniors, they are often prescribed not one but multiple prescription drugs, and considering that cannabis has been shown to help provide remedy to a multitude of symptoms, it's no wonder that many seniors might venture to see if cannabis could replace one or several of their prescriptions, and no doubt there are others who are also doing the same.

In states that have legalized we have already reportedly seen a drop in opioid overdoses and researchers have sought to explore what impact if any cannabis might have on replacing prescriptions. Researchers have seen that patients have been using cannabis to substitute for prescriptions such as antidepressants, benzodiazepines, more. The reason? A great deal of patients admit that they experience less side effects with cannabis than they do with those other drugs.

DEFINITELY!

Can you imagine the diet of pills most old folks are fed? Can you imagine the side effects and side effects of the drugs that are prescribed to handle the side effects?

Some CBD or THC depending upon the ailment will save them lots of money, cost the health system less, and make for some good senior years!

Throw this into the data: I've been smoking since I was 16, I'm not a grandpa, but I am 64 years old ;-)

@zekepickleman is right - they also vote! Living in IL sucks. There's so much good that weed could be doing for this generation.

Good on the seniors who are sick and using it for pain relief and wellness. I don't understand the reluctance of governments to legalise it.

You know what else a lot of elderly like to do?!! Vote!

The future is bright and green I pray.
