WooHoo! I just reached 1000 SP on elbow grease.
When I first reached 100 followers I thought about doing a "yay me!" post but decided against it. Every follower milestone after that just didn't seem like the right time to celebrate the accomplishment. I think it is probably because half of my followers are dead and I still haven't figured out how to dump them to get a true follower number.
However, yesterday I reached a true milestone. I reached 1000 steempower by being active here. I will admit, I did start with 180 SP but since that time It has grown without putting any more money into steem. Just interacting with steemians on steemit and in real life.
I know it isn't a lot compared to some but it truly marks an event here on steemit for me. It could all tank tomorrow and I would fine with that (kinda). But.... If steem takes off like I know it will, it just goes to show what a great platform it is.
"So you're saying that I can make money by posting my witty commentary on the internet?? Hmmmmm"
Anyhoo.... Yay Me!!!
You can do it too! Find things you like reading about and always write a thoughtful comment. You will find that using the steem blockchain as social media is working. It isn't a quick fix but it also isn't as much of a gamble. Put in some time and have some fun meeting new people. :)

The 500 you delegated to me? I was at about 300-400 sp at the time. It was cool to be able to give posts and projects a bigger vote. Weather or not it made a difference as to how fast I progressed... I don't know.
Congrats my man, and I know the feeling re dead followers, I have 539 and barely get past 6 votes on some articles, strange old world eh.
Yes it would be fantastic if there was a way to purge the dead followers. I would much rather see the number of actual real followers.
Me too. I loved it when that happened on Instagram back in the day. Now after steemit it don't give a hoot about IG followers as they all just want to sell me something ... grrr. xx
New Follow here. I will try to stay alive as long as I can! For now my elbow grease is going into posting comments and upvoting content I like. So far it is fun and I have met some folks kind enough to answer questions and engage. Congratulations on your achievements!
The only tool I have found for follower live/dead is steemspectacles http://www.steemspectacles.com/@doctorcrypto/followers
Not 100% upto date runs about a week behind or two. but gives a general idea.

I love the fact that you have rolled your sleeves up and earned your Steem the hard way. That inspires me to keep going and work even harder. I try to interact and add quality comments to other peoples posts too. As a newb I've found that to be the best way to increase my following up until now.

This makes me feel good. It took me ages to hit 15 SP by commenting and posting good comments. Loving it, but hard work. Then I just dropped 40 steem into my account and powered up. I'm like - should I? But if you're feeeelinnnng goooooddd then so am I! Whoopdedoo indeed! :)
I have not cashed out. Everything gets powered up. I still feel like this hasn't taken off yet.
