Gone fishing 🐠steemCreated with Sketch.

Today I had to go help hubby out by playing driver and helper as he finalized his affairs to get the boat out to sea.

At first they had to move the boat to the outside of the other boats so he was ready for departure tonight.

It's quite a sight to behold as they move the boats around in the Harbour. I even took a video but unfortunately cannot upload it here

After moving the boats we had to go to the various officials to get clearance for the boat to leave the harbor. Once that was done we went for a quick (victualing) food-shop for the time they spent at sea.

Hubby came prepared with a shopping list longer than his arm and we got going, each one with a trolley, ticking off on the list as we loaded the supplies in the trolleys.

Getting this lot in the car was a great challenge.. 😂 We rent a tiny little Micra as a runabout on the island and we could barely fit all the food in.

As the boat stays out anything between 15-21 days max and they have to provide food for 6 people on board this is not a job to take lightly.

The car was so full there was barely space for us. We had to go back for some fresh vegetables and fruit. On the way out of the parking lot I took this photo of a father and son on a motorcycle.

Back at the boat the crew all assisted with unpacking the car and getting the proviand over to the boat and we were quickly done.

#Now it was time to say goodbye. I had to come back home where the kids were waiting having said goodbye this morning already and hubby got on his boat and steamed off in the sunset. And we'll see him on a couple of weeks.

This is our lives at least once a month. Hubby spends a few days home and then it's off to the fishing grounds to earn our keep.

All the photos are my own*

I could feel the excitement and energy of all this! You must have so many things going on with it all. I spend a lot of time at the marina near my house and love it there. It's a pleasure boat marina - no commercial boats, but there's that sense of anticipation and heading into the wild zone. I talk to people and ask them where they are heading or where they've returned from. One guy told me they just got back from Alaska. I don't know how many miles it is but it's really far from here. What sort of fish do they catch? Are there pirates? :)

Hi @rossfletcher thanks for stopping by. 😊 Yes it's a hectic few days and a big scramble to get the boat ready. I'm not normally involved as I'm not employed by the company but sometimes I'll help hubby out if he's got too much to do. They take on 20tons of fuel and 20 tons of water and that's without the bait that they have to load. They work about 600 nautical miles offshore hence the long period away from home. They catch a variety of fish here of which I don't know the names at all I'm ashamed to admit but they are all in French.. 😂 When I was younger and the kids smaller I used to go to sea with him for a trip or two every other couple of months. But the trips he does now is too long and shipping laws have changed too much over the years. If you go down in my feed you'll read about our experience when his boat sank in 2002. It's a dangerous job but someone's got to do it. Glad you enjoyed the post 😊

😂 Thank you. It's actually my husband that goes fishing. He's a captain on a fishing vessel. 😊

Howdy dkkarolien! that is very interesting to see a little bit about the life of a professional fisherman. I hope they pay well because that is quite a sacrifice! Do they have a cook on the boat?

Good morning from Mauritius @janton. Fishing can be a lucrative business if we can keep the suits out. They corrupt the process with greed. We've had our ups and downs. Mostly downs with people cheating you out of income. But we've had some good ups. It's my husband's passion in life to fish. And do so sustainably. Thanks for stopping by ☺️

Howdy again dkkarolien! Do you guys hope to have your own boat one day? Would that be better money?
