Steemit is a platform that encourages its users to always be original in their content creation in other to add value in the community. The practice of plagiarism goes against the whole idea of being an quality content creator. Having your own say in the community is very important ,by it you tend to share your own idea about a concept .You get to compare different ideas from various sources, weigh their differences and contribute your own quota. This is the whole concept of

proof of brain
.

PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism according to oxford dictionary simply denotes 'copying of another person's ideas, text, or other creative work, and presenting it as one's own idea ,especially without permission'

There are different forms in which one can be found guilty of plagiarism-

st,small,845x845-pad,1000x1000,f8f8f8.jpgimage source

  • cutting and pasting from the web, the internet without referencing of the source of the information or data. When you go the internet and copy an information or download an image or video it is only proper that you leave a link to the source of your information, failure to do this is an act of plagiarism.

  • Verbatim or writing word to word from a source without due acknolwedgement is another form of plagiarism. Any time you wish to borrow a leaf from what anyone has said it's expected that you make reference to the original author of that sentence using quotation marks(") or better still use > as we often do in steemit. For instance

knowledge is power- francis bacon

By this i am simply implying that the statement 'knowledge is power' was made by Francis bacon.

  • Paraphrasing is also another form of referencing and it implies altering words of the original author without giving credit to the author.

IS PLAGIARISM A PUNISHABLE OFFENCE ?

YES,it is a punishable offense .it is considered theft of another's idea.it is punishable by law so it is very important that you avoid it by every means possible.

I conclude with this ;always strive to make your content be original let your opinion have volume because at the end of it all that is all that matter. Take out time to list out your points on a particular concept and develop the details.By so doing you have less to worry about your work been found plagiarised.
I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them.

I also recommend the use of tools like plagiarism checker and grammarly to scrutinise your work before you post them ,so as to clear all trace of plagiarism.

Thank you
