WINscnosin: Beer, cheese, and the packers bundled up in a State. Part #1 Beer is good

So if you don't already know, Wisconsin loves its' beer. It loves its' beer like a panda loves bamboo. If you think you can out drink a true Wisconsinite, you're like a D3 stud thinking you can hang in the NFL. Because we, ladies and gents, know how to pound em. Maybe it gets the best of us too often, Our state has 6 of the 10 drunkest cities in the country (measured by # of deaths), but it’s a culture. A culture of casual drinking, reminiscing with old friends and forging new memories. That's why, I will share how YOU too can participate in this wonderful liver destruction with our great lake state.

New Glarus

This is Wisconsin beer. A delicious amber drink that serves as a Wisconsinites appetizer or desert. A beer crafted and sold only in our state and only ever will be. Other states have begged for the business to expand, but it stays true to their roots. Many a time have Minnesota bars near the border been caught selling the beer after buying it in Wisconsin. It is one of my favorites and whether going to a family gathering, or a tailgate, walking in with some New Glarus to share, garners some respect.

The Tailgate

Most people have heard of a tailgate, and I'm sure a fair amount have participated in one, but has it ever been in Wisconsin? Every Brewer, Packer, and Badger game, endless rows of parking lanes and filled with portable parties drinking beer, playing games, and grilling out. Each one a friendly and inclusive mass whose generosity knows no bounds. A lot of people enjoy the tailgate more than the game and don't even make it. There have been plenty of Brewer games the parking lot attendants have had to force us in come third inning.

Not so Picky

There really isn't a beer you can put in front of a Wisconsinite that he/she won't drink. You may think being such beer aficionados, that we would be pretentious about it. You're right, we may know a good beer from a bad one, but that doesn't mean we won't drink both.

The Day Drink & Pregame

No one does it better. Wisconsinites are like finely tuned alcohol machines, able to perfectly calibrate their bodies to achieve the level of intoxication they want and maintain it for an indefinite amount of time. On the glorious occasions a day drink arises, our states occupants wake up like a kid on Christmas and crack the golden gift. There isn't an early tap out for residents in this state and only on an off day will we need a brief power nap before hitting the scene again at night. Day drink with true Wisconsinites and you better have trained your liver beforehand.

The Snacks

They don't call us cheese heads for nothing. We love the yellow stuff and it loves us. A Wisconsinite who doesn't know his cheese, is like a pastor not knowing the chapters of the bible. Except to eat more than your fair share here.

Family events

You know how family holidays and birthdays, everyone talks about drinking, but then only actually, has one? Yah, not the case here. At family events people do not shy away from the alcohol, often encouraging you to have another.

Wisconsin's Coffee

Most places it's go out for coffee, here it is go out for a beer. The city of Lacrosse broke the Guiness Book of World Records for most bars on one street, and that was a city with a population on 50,000......think about that.

Bang for your Buck

Alcohol is cheap here. How cheap you might ask? You can get a 30 pack for $10. A 1.75 of liquor for $10 and bars in our area offer all you can drink wristbands for $6. Yes you read that right. We can drink unlimited for the same price you pay for one.

Not just Beer

It maybe our favorite, but wine and spirits are a cornerstone here also. Door country produces some of the best wines east of the Mississippi. A Wisconsin drinker is versatile, disciplined in all forms of alcohol.

Brewery Tours

I've been on three this year, and that will only increase next year. My personal favorite is the Pabst tour down in Milwaukee. Generous amounts of beer, fun people, and history, what isn't there to love?

The Low Down

Here in Wisconsin, we love our booze. Whether beer, wine, or spirits we got you covered. What really makes the drinking culture here though is the people. I dare you to find a more inclusive and jolly group of drunks. Drinking is part of our identity, but there is much, much more to us.
