i'm bored with steem

I have enough SP to make money if I used steem, but why not just delegate it to a bot and make money passively? What exactly is the incentive not to do this?

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood.

Sort:

since you don’t read my shit just bot me lol that’s what everyone else seems to be doing. My last post albeit new netted 6 views 36 votes. - wtf

Also I literally read your posts I don't just upvote you with a bot :-)

I have this thing I noticed where if I spend like $7 or more (approximately) on a vote-bid to @booster, I get hundreds of votes and several of them are worth $1-4. But I really just wanted people to actually see it and read it. Oh well, cash money I guess

What exactly is the incentive not to do this?

There obviously isn't one. In fact, the incentive leans more towards doing that very thing. That's why Steemit has become bot-city.

I'm feeling the same way (except I don't have a shitload of SP).

yeahhhh, yay to hardfuck/fork 19, great job there right?
is why there are about 450 k registered 'users' and 4 or 5 k supposed active ones on a daily basis
I lucked out that a lot of my posts do get read pretty heavily but still make nothing compared to the circle jerk/daisy chain squads

what happened in HF 19? There are serious issues with the algorithms they use to reward curation and posts, in my opinion. The fact that you make 100% of profits from your upvote if you upvote yourself, and a small piece when you upvote others, means that there is literally no incentive to upvote anything, besides A) altruism, B) not wanting to ever write anything, including comments. Thats bad. I did enjoy giving out nice upvotes to stuff I liked, but it's a big opportunity cost that makes the system not work as we like to think it should.

You got a free upvote just for speaking your mind, courtesy of me! No need to write a novel, speak your mind! Give me a follow for more giveaways!

I went over to the dark side. When the algorithms change so that actually personally curating is more profitable than delegating to a bot, I'll come right on back. Until then, I think I'm becoming more bearish on Steem, but I'll wait patiently to see if some changes actually happen.

I agree, it can be challenging. As a writer, with 7 books to my name and thousands of followers on other platforms, I expected to do better here. But, for the first three weeks, I mostly earned cents on my posts. Then, last night, this happened: https://steemit.com/speakyourmind/@yahialababidi/my-close-encounter-with-a-dangerous-cult-that-youve-probably-never-heard-of Good for you @battleaxe lucking out; what's your secret getting a wide readership?

My advice, don't despair, keep at it, try different strategies. Also, what's booster? @adhouse?

Nice!

I was more talking about holding SP and using it for curation. Writing is another story.

Ah, forgive me, still trying to figure out what it all means. All what I own (not much) is in SP, though I'm not fully sure how it gets spent?

This is one of the big issues with the platform: The basics are exceedingly hard to understand.

Basically, Steam Power is just a way of holding Steem, the main token, for a long term. You cannot freely withdraw or transfer SP; instead, you have to power down, which is a process where the sp converts to steem over a period of 3 months.

SP allows the votes that you give out to be worth more; that's the main benefit, I suppose.

It's cool that your post was so successful! I do think that high quality content will eventually get noticed here. Did you do anything to promote it?

Hey, that’s very helpful, thanks, for walking me through it. I’m a little clueless when it comes to money & tech, but that made sense.

I do believe quality/talent rises to the surface - like a cork in water, my mentor used to say - but it takes time. I did not promote my post in any way, but was lucky Curie picked it up. Like the real world, it helps in the virtual to know who is who I guess.

Ocd is another curator worth checking out.

@booster is a bot. you send it steem dollars with your post url in a memo and it will upvote it.
