Is smoking cool?
I personally don't smoke, and never have, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke and it makes me sneeze and cough, though I was tempted to try one time in my life. I used to work the skeleton crew night shift at a food warehouse, unloading trucks and stocking shelves, an on a break one night one of my crew mates asked if I ever smoked. I said no, and he asked me if I wanted to try, as he passed his cigarette in my direction. I had never had any desire to try smoking, even though I grew up with a father that smoked, but in that moment I really thought "hey, why not?" and I said "mmmm, yeah sure..." I held the cigarette in my hand for a second, then I just changed my mind, "nah, you know what, I actually don't want to" I said, and passed it back to him.
He smiled at me and said, "good for you man, that was probably one of the best decisions you'll ever make", and I really don't regret it to this day (about fifteen years later). I can honestly say I have never again been tempted to try smoking, and I'm glad for that, but this is all beside the point of this post.
Fact is, whether smoking is cool or not, it sure looks cool, at least it can sometimes.
Like when you have a drop dead gorgeous bride and her ridiculously good looking husband stop to take a little smoke break in the ancient little european village behind the castle they got married at on their wedding day and they give you this:

Sorry to hear that @jwolf, you can do it man, I support you!! I know it can be very hard, my dad struggled for many years trying to quit smoking, and some other friends of mine as well. Give it your best dude!

Haha, thanks @mrwanderlust! Yes I agree, I don't think smoking is cool, but I do think it sometimes looks cool, but it's really bad for you and that's not cool :(
I am smoking since i was 17. I do not remember how i started it, but probably because everybody else was smoking. The fact is that i never tried to stop it and i can not imagine myself without it. I can not drink coffee without cigarette, i avoid places that not allow smoking, i am smoking when i work on pc and feel very uncomfortable when i have to visit or go out with people that not smoking. Of course is a bad habit and dangerous to health, but for me is a little pleasure that I do not want to miss. Smoking is cool :)
Crazy @digitalking! It's so interesting to hear from the perspective of someone who smokes all the time since I never have. I thought that most people really don't enjoy it and probably want to quit, I guess I was wrong!
Right and wrong ... I am smoking a lot and for many years and i do not consider myself an average smoker. I admit that i could try to smoke less but i never have push myself to do that. I think that most people that smoking for years enjoy it and can not do without it. People want to quit probably because they afaraid of their health or already have health problems. People that smoke just because consider it cool usually quit smoking in short time!
I believe that in photography it can look cool - adding some gentle touch to whole composition. But other than that - I don't find that tempting or cool at any level. It doesn't bother me when someone around me smokes thou. There is one thing i can't stand - smell of cigar. I just hate it! :p
Totally agree with you @wbucko, even about the smell of cigars. I shoot a lot of weddings and it is super common for guys to smoke cigars on the wedding day, especially here in Europe, and they are just so stinky!
Well, I think that the right of one ends when the right of others begins. Smoking, be it cigarettes or marijuana is immoral because it disrespects the right of the others to not be bothered by a stinky smoke.
I hear you @discernente, I think that I would agree with you if others have no option to leave, but if you are in a public space and smoking is legal and allowed, then I feel like it is up to others to either tolerate it or go somewhere else. There is a case to be made since smoking is directly harmful to other's health though, but unfortunately if it is legal people will do it.
Not everything that is legal is moral. My argument is that smoking in public places is immoral, irrespective to the legality of the action.
Yeah, I've never been into smoking either. The effect in photos definitely makes it cool and tells a story in certain shots.
Right there with ya @vermillionfox, it has a unique quality in imagery that I love, but have never been into it otherwise.

I smoke and I love and hate it. I did twice around 4 weeks switching to e-cig, which was great, no smell, more power, more breath..but I missed the dirtiness of cigarettes and started again..
Spent years smoking...and I regret every single cigarette. Such a waste of $$$!!
