The dreaded school run.

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

So my good lady or better half felt ill at 7am.

I was left with no choice but to do the school run, daughter dressed fed and ready to go (check).

It was minus 5c out, and I had a choice to make, scrape the ice off the car windows, with a restless 6 year old demanding to join in, even though she can hardly reach the windows, or walk a mile. The choice was easy for me "walk it was".

For a little un she can walk a steady pace, we hustled and hurried in the wind and cold, both of us shivering, she talked nervously about her first day back in three weeks, yes 3 weeks she has been home.

The one added bonus I get from the school run, is the semi embarrassed apologetic look every time I go there from the teachers, you see my good lady is 14 years younger than me, and they made the mistake on only my second visit, of asking if grandad had brought my daughter to school. So now they squirm every time I go there. It made me warm inside today. You should never judge a book by the cover, especially where parents are concerned.

Double bonus, I got to pick her up also, and had the treat of watching them squirm all over again, I opted for the car this time though

Last night was a strange one, and taught me a lesson in not letting my little one play games on my phone or her tablet so much. She woke up at 12 midnight, and came into my bedroom, saying she needed to look for more jewels, the my little pony game she plays it seems, was playing on her mind in her sleep.

Lesson learned, just because I need a bit of peace and quiet sometimes, simply saying yes to her playing on my phone is definitely not the way to go.

I had 5 hours of working on motorbikes in almost total quiet, lovely for me anyway.

Hope you all had a good day also, let me know below. Peace love and respect to all.

Time for a drink.

My boy has a screaming match every dinner time because he thinks we're eating without him when we're doing the cooking, it's stressful to say the least.

I cherish the peace and quiet too, when I can get it!

A drink of Whiskey for me after today I think.

I hear ya bro on all counts, have a stiff one later bud.

Start him off helping with the cooking as early as possible. Find simple jobs like stirring a pot or adding an ingredient. My 8 Year old helps me cook all the time and has been helping for years.

It's my job once a week to make the school run and it's probably my least favorite thing to deal with. The other parents in the drop off line are inconsiderate and most really just need to be slapped upside their head. Simple rules are there for the safety and efficiency of the drop off process and they just can't be bothered to follow them.

Maybe it bothers me so much as they ignore the safety rules and it's my kids safety we are talking about...either way drop off is stressful.

We have a rule about games and phones. Games and phone all get turned off 1 hour before bed. This does help with the quality of sleep the kids get...that is proven, not just our experience. The phone for the middle school kid is the one we get the most arguments about as her friends get their phones in their bedrooms. They will be texting each other still at 11pm on school nights which there is no need for.

My Daughter turns her phone on in the morning and most days will have 20-60 messages that she missed. Craziness.

There is no road outside my daughters school so we do not have them issues. The phone off idea is great, though as yet not needed due to friends as she has no friends that have a phone. What I want to avoid if I can, is her sticking her head in a phone while walking outside, so she does not take it out the house. It works for now, time will tell. Thanks for stopping by.

Yeah the walking while looking at a phone is a scary one. Seen plenty of kids walk right into the street without even glancing up from their phone. Worst was when pokemon go was popular as people were doing some really stupid things. We had a ton of the pokestop things near us so we got to see all the craziness.

Luckily that pokemon craze never reached here in Poland, people were busy working, and mobile phones are for them expensive items, so not for games. I did see videos of the crazy people hunting in packs in the USA for the imaginary rewards. Scary when it included peoples living rooms and such like.

Downside to way to much government handouts, people can sit on their butts and get free phones, internet, food, insurance, and housing. They say it's to take care of those that can't work, but it breeds a culture of laziness and dependence. Way to many people that can work that aren't because it's comfortable not working and getting everything for free. But on the up side they had plenty of time to play pokemon lol.

Just an FYI I am following you now and found you from comments on another post related to the reward pool. Figured since we saw eye to eye on the issue it made sense to check out your posts. really hoping that some of the bigger players in the steemit community can fix these issues.

Thanks for that, following you back also. Yes since day 1 of being here I have watched the bernie v H show, and I fully agree that 10 low quality posts a day do not deserve 500,000 a year or more.

I am doing a free food project here, though for different reasons. Poland is very poor and so are the people. No free food and government handouts here.

I know a bunch of polish immigrants here. A lot come to the Chicagoland area. They all say the same thing about Poland and it's why they come here. Then they save up to bring more family here.
