트롬본은 이탈리아어로 ‘트럼펫’을 뜻하는 ‘트롬바(Tromba)’와 ‘크다’는 뜻을 가진 ‘오네(One)’의 합성어다. 그냥 쉽게 말해 큰 트럼펫이라는 명칭이다.
망원경의 원리와 비슷한 슬라이드를 가지고 관의 길이를 이용해 다수의 음정들을 연주한다.
손으로 뺐가넣다 하는 장치가 망원경의 원리였단다.
