고전주의 시대에 본격적으로 소수가 아닌 다수, 즉 대중을 위한 보편적인 음악이 만들어졌지만 낭만주의 시대에 와서는 이제 다시 개인의 감정이 중요해졌다. 음악이 다시 소수만을 위해 소비되는 것이라고 오해할 수 있지만, 자세히 들여다보면 조금 더 많은 대중의 욕구를 채워주기 위해 다양화됐다는 뜻이라는 걸 알 수 있다
낭만주의 시대의 대표적인 악기 연주자는 니콜로 파가니니(Niccolo Paganini)와 프란츠 리스트(Franz Liszt), 프레데리크 쇼팽(Frederic Chopin)이었다.
음악이 개인의 욕구를 채워주기 위해 만들어지기 시작했다는 뜻이다.
