Global Warming, Climate Change, Global "whatever" we need to start treating our environment with the same level of care and attention that we extend to our love ones. This post is about "awareness", awareness about our 'environment'. It cannot continue to be a troll debate between those who believe in it and those who hold a different opinion. As human beings, I strongly believe it is our duty to take care of our environment and put the necessary policies in place that the generation that comes after us can enjoy the same pleasures that this planet afford us. Now I am not going to present varying scientific evidence that is for or against, I am going to talk about my experience, growing up on an island in the Caribbean and some of the challenges we are facing.

You may look at this picture and appreciate the obvious beauty and probably consider adding it to your bucket list of places to go. An I certainly would encourage you to do if places like these are still around in ten years time. One of the present challenges are 'rising' sea level. In fact, beaches I used to enjoy are no longer around as the sea continue to claim new territory. Let me remind you that I am still in my twenties, quite a few of these beaches are no longer present. This is not a myth or conspiracy theory, this is happening as we speak. The romantic walk under the moonlight with sparkling blue water at this present rate would probably be something we enjoy on Photoshop in ten years time.

Entire towns and city are under threat, continual coastal erosion are claiming ports and point of entry for a number of islands. These ports used to be major hubs and trading center for Europe during the 18th, 19th, and 20th century, this present challenge is unprecedented. This is not conspiracy or hoax or fake news, these islands are under serious strain to find solutions. Compounded with the problem of increase flooding in these capitals as traditional water outlet are no longer possible.

Beautiful picture, nice and sunny with a breathe taking view of the ocean. As an islander I find myself running from the sun, yep, running from the sun, in fact, you would be in trouble if the mid-day sun catches you with no shelter. I now find myself getting several sun burns if I go to enjoy a game of cricket or simply having a swim on the beach in the mid-day. Many fisherman have effectively change their fishing habits because the heat has become unbearable and their catch would not survive the heat if they are without ice. This is not conspiracy or hoax, this is actually happening. Selling fans are now big business or having a company specializing in AC unit is now big business. I personally cannot sleep without a fan or AC unit, it simply just to hot in the night. This never used to be an issue 5 to 10 years ago.

Now lets talk about weather pattern, we used to enjoy two distinct seasons, a wet and dry season. Now that is a thing of the past with patterns getting more bizarre as time passes by, we now await snow. The hurricane season starts anytime and ends anytime, nothing is predictable, every year the scale is broken. The intensity and ferocity of these hurricanes are unprecedented. In 2004 I thought nothing could have beaten Ivan, then there was Emily and now Irma has broken all records. The usual pattern used to be one major hurricane, now we clocking 4 to 6 major hurricanes in one season. This is not conspiracy or hoax, this is actually happening. We are now experiencing unprecedented cases of respiratory illness with spells of what we call Sahara dust blocking visibility for hours. This used to be a phenomenon happening late April, now its a matter "when would dis damn thing clear up". These are just a few cases, I can go on sharing my experience, I want this post to be about "awareness" our environment is "changing" something is accelerating that change. I am only in my twenties, I spoken to folks who have since gone on to a better place and they would ask "what exactly is going on" and one of the responses you would get from an islander "well boi God coming soon".

I certainly hope that when I read comments here on Steemit or Twitter, that folks don't just throw these things as myth or hoax or fake news, we would struggle to accept varying scientific research and everyone is welcome to have their opinion but you must know that people are feeling the effects of inaction of this very important subject. Lets us all play our part, bring that level of consciousness that our environment should be cared for. It is quite simple, you can help by picking you non-degradable waste on your beaches or park and start a community group that address environment causes and help educate our generation that there are consequences to our inaction.
