تردیدی نیست که آلودگی هوا در بروز و تشدید آسم دخالت دارد، ولی دقیقاً چه میزان از حملات آسم در کودکان ناشی از آلودگی هوا است؟

مطالعهای جدید نشان میدهد که بالغ بر ۳۸ درصد تمام موارد آسم کودکان ممکن است بر اثر آلودگی هوا ایجاد شده باشد. این مطالعه در مجلهی محیط زیست بینالملل ( Environment International) منتشر شده است. این مطالعه در شهر برادفورد انگلستان ایجاد شده است که در آنجا میزان بروز آسم نسبت به میانگین کشوری بالاتر است. این مطالعه نشان میدهد که آلودگی هوا بر اثر ترافیک از مهم این افزایش میزان بروز آسم است.
با توجه به اینکه آلودگی هوا در بسیاری از شهرهای ایران نیز از معضلات مهم به شمار میرود، لازم است که به این موضوع توجه خاصی به عمل آید تا بتوان تا حد امکان از موارد آسم کودکان جلوگیری کرد.
