The second session of the Tarining

Well, in the last week, I shared about the training program I had from my current work establishment, After a one-week Training Program. The next part of it was held from the 22nd to the 26th at the same location. We went there on Sunday via Office transportation and many of the participants have been already there.

As I said, in the last week I was waiting to go back to the refreshing climate and the scenery.

The Group

The last week, I briefly told you about our project CSIAP and what were teaching us. With funding from the world bank, the project is undergoing under the Minister of Agriculture. So, the main part of it is providing water requirements for the farmers in selected Districts. So, here we had a workshop on Hydrological studies using Software applications.

The idea is to deliver the knowledge and practices used by our design office to the other Engineers and technical officers in the field at the Irrigation Department and Department of Agrarian Development.

The workshop has been designed in a very organized manner. Our final output was to do a Water Balance study for a required cascade. There were a few sections covered. First, an introduction to hydrological studies was given, and the background to creating rainfall series using different stations and data filling for the missing data was taught. Some scripts written in JAVA language were used for this.

Then a very important and versatile software mainly used in the construction field, ArcGIS was introduced and the method of delineating basins and subbasins was taught. The next step was to calculate the runoff. HEC-HMS software was used for that. And lastly, WEAP software was used to do the final step. In addition to this Google Earth, CropWat, ClimWat software, and many other resources were used in the process.

Unlike the first week, there were a very friendly environment and close relationship with the participants. There were many functions and as always Alcohol did the trick as always, I guess.

On the last day, there was a closing ceremony and certificates were given with the participation of the Deputy Project Director, and Senior Engineering Consultant of the project. It was a very valuable session and looking forward to using it in the industry and hoping for more chances like this in the future.
