My Adventures - Hike to Diyaluma Falls
It was in April 2018, when I was in the second year of my university life. There were 23 boys at my boarding place at the time from more than 10 districts around Sri Lanka. So, on a vacation, we decided to explore the boys' homes. It was a long journey of 10 days starting from Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kandy, Monaragala, and then to Sri Pada at Ratnapura. We traveled to one another's houses and visited the famous places nearby.
Today's story is about a hike to the top of a waterfall near my home in Buttala. So, let's see.

Diyaluma Falls is the second-highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and holds 619th place in the world. It's around 220m tall, located near Koslanda on the Colombo-Badulla main road. Punagala Oya stream traveled through the hills making natural pools and falls creating this beauty.
This is a must-watch tourist destination, for those who want to explore the scenic beauty of Sri Lanka, and experience adventure and hiking. As the place is close to Ella, you can also plan an amazing trip for life.
The Start
The amazing thing here is that you can go to the top by vehicle and have a small walk to the place. Or else, we can start from the bottom of the falls, hike through the terrain, and have the full experience. So, what do you think we chose? Well, yeah! We chose the hard way.
We started from here. From the bottom of the waterfall in Koslanda village. It's better to have a guide or a local friend as this is a 2-3 hour climb.
The trekking route is mainly through dense jungle or grassy terrain. The rocky and sloppy hills really give an adventurous vibe. It can be difficult for some, so remember to bring any safety precautions you need. You can understand the reason from the below images.
Boys on the move
It's a picturesque scenery along the way. There are opportunities for birdwatching and the chance to spot wildlife. First, we passed through a rubber plantation and a few houses and then came to the isolated journey. Along the way, at some point, we can see small waterfalls and waterways.
There are several natural mini pool-like places on the route. We couldn't miss that pleasure, so had so much fun from the water activities. We can jump from rocks about 7-10m to the pools, and there are also small sliding places. I have many videos of the day, that will be forever memories.
Along the way
View from the top
So, after around 05 hours of hiking, as we stopped for waterworks along the way, we reached the top. It was simply amazing. If you are a photographer you will be crazed. View around the mountain, water is falling like crazy, the beautiful landscape, everything is top.
But the most exciting thing is three pools at the top. They are natural infinity pools. After a hard climb, a swim in these with a view like this, no words to describe the feeling. It's worth the effort and it's not a common experience to have.
We climbed back from the other side, which was a bit easier and took less time. And when it gets dark elephants tend to come to the place. So, better to leave before dawn
So, it's the end of another adventure. Hope you enjoy it. I invite @patjewell, @mikitaly, @simonnwigwe to the contest!
Until the next time! Enjoy!
Thank you.
Best Regards!
What a beautiful place!
I think the men must have had a ball of a time.
I can just imagine the feeling when you reached the top and saw the beautiful view.
I must admit, the photo of your friend sitting on the end of that rock made my legs feel like jelly. Oh gosh! I would never be able to do that.
Thank you for sharing!
I wish you all the best.
Yeah it was one hell of a hike and experience. Everything is perfect. Even we can camp there overnight.
Actually it is me 😁😁😅
the three pools at the top is just amazing. Anyhow I have lost those images. It was 08 years ago... Here's an image from the internet.
Wow! It is incredible.
Just a pity I got jelly legs again. That couple is pretty close to the edge. 🙈
As for you 8 years ago... Okay, that explains it. (•ิ‿•ิ)
