Alms giving for Grandmother's one year rememberence

in STEEM FOR BETTERLIFE3 months ago

One year has already passed after the passing of my beloved grandmother. Still feels like a few weeks ago, as she was an amazing lady and we had a very close bond with her. Last year I shared about the funeral Farewell Grand ma | Rest In Peace and how we held the ceremony. She had a pretty charismatic life earning the love and respect of villagers and spending 93 years to the fullest. She was the last of four grandparents to leave us.

Anyway for the one-year remembrance of her, we planned to give alms-giving to two temples on two different days.

Buttala Rahathankanda Aranya Senasanaya Monastery

It's a very sacred and ancient monastery in my area which is situated on a 450-meter-high mountain. It's said that 500 Arahats lived here thousands of years ago. We can still see Archaeological Ruins, caves, and ponds on the premises. Now around 10 theros are living here. The place is very soothing and calm to the mind.

We scheduled the almsgiving on the 16th of August prior and prepared the required things early. We bought a few essential items for theros named Atapirikar and sesu prikara other than preparing meals. My mother and my sisters were busy preparing rice and curry, and other sweets early in the morning and we went to the monastery around 9.00 a.m.

First, we arranged the things and one of the monks gave sermons, and dedicated the meals to Lord Buddha. He remembered my grandmother and we did some rituals according to my religion and our belief. After that, we took some time to explore the place without disturbing the animals and monks living there. As you can see in the pictures the place blends with nature which creates a soothing atmosphere.

Wellawaya Malewana Aranya Senasanaya Monastery

On the 19th of August, it was a poya day in Sri Lanka. So we decided to bring alms to another monastery in Wellawaya. Normally common people used to observe sil on the poya day. So, along with the monks that lived there, around 60 people were there on that day.

It's also built near a mountain with a big rock and without large interaction with the external world e monks used to concentrate more on religious and spiritual upliftment.

Normally the monks take only breakfast and lunch. Here we serve both in the morning. So, we had to go there at around 6.00 a.m. and do the rituals. As before we observed Pansil, engaged in the sermons, and served the meals for the monks and to the people who had observed Sil.

So, on both occasions, it went smoothly and we were happy about our efforts. Especially mother was very emotional remembering her mother. Hope Grandma is in a better place according to her wishes and our religion!
