Back from Nottingham & Had an Amazing Time!

I got back from Nottingham last Saturday, but I haven't posted anything about it since. Let me tell you, traveling by train for +8 hours non-stop really takes a toll on you. The railway system in the UK works completely different than it does in Belgium & gave me quite a bit of worries. I'm used to paying around 10 - 15 euros for a two hour trip, compared to more than £40 for a similar trip in the UK.
To top it off, in the UK you need to book tickets in advance to get a better price and you can only take specific trains with them, at specific hours. In Belgium, you can just buy a ticket at the counter and it's valid for an entire day, you can just choose which train you take. I'll remember that when they ever try to privatize the railway system here in Belgium, as in to not vote for the party who suggests it...
The trip itself was really fun though!
The Food & Beer
During my first days in Nottingham, I wasn't able to take many pictures, because I had forgotten to bring a power plug converter to recharge my phone. We ended up buying a couple later on, so luckily I was still able to take some photos from the meal we had together with the founders of Oracle-D.

Doesn't that look extremely appetizing? We had our meetup at the oldest inn of the UK, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem. As for the beers, I tried a nice porter and the other guys took some local beers of which I can't even remember the name. Just shows you that we had a great time!

We had some very interesting discussions about Steem and some of the projects we were working on with our company, Special Circumstances. Mostly talking about stuff we could possibly work together on in the future, since there's some overlap between our company values. I had planned to meet up with @starkerz the day after this as well, but the people from my company were leaving the UK already, so I sadly wasn't able to make it to that meetup.
I'm Definitely Coming Back!
Because this whole trip was so great, I'm absolutely sure that I'll visit the UK again in a couple of months. I'm secretly hoping that the next Steemfest might take place there, if that's the case, I'll definitely go there. SteemcampUK might be an option as well, who knows...
In the end, you Brits have a lovely country & I really hope I can still travel to it without needing a passport :D Even if I need one, I'll gladly get it though...
That food looks fantastic. I feel your pain about not having a charger and not being able to take as many pictures as you wanted to. I am going to have do a better job of making sure I am prepared. I could have gotten so many great shots in Nevada if I wasn't so absent minded. I am glad you had a good time and that things went well in the UK.
Yeah it was a stupid oversight on my part. I did have my charger, but they have different plugs in the UK, completely forgot about that.
The food tasted great indeed!
That is awesome to hear about the food. I understand what you are saying about the charger. I used to sell adapter kits to people all the time when I worked at Radio Shack. With Dow being in town we had lots of people traveling outside of the States and lots of people from other countries living in our town temporarily.
The train system has been on the news a lot in the last year. It keeps going up in price and the service doesn't get any better.
We get, '1 million has been pumped into improving service' but still the moans and groans continue.
Interesting comparison of price you give and yes, you must pay before jumping on now or be fined.
SteemCamp is this Saturday. Still tickets available on the door and that pickup from East Midlands airport if you want it ;)
Yeah, that definitely added a bit of stress to my journey, but everything worked out alright. For the trip back I at least managed to get the ticket app installed and bought a ticket a couple of days before traveling. That saved me quite a bit of money.
When I bought my ticket to Nottingham in London, I paid a whopping £65 :O
Don't think I'll be going back that soon ;) Have to catch up on a bit of work and I don't think my girlfriend would appreciate me leaving again :D

Is that the robinhood statue there in the picture? Never knew there was a statue for him
Hehe, yes, meeting up the peepz in London was one of my highlights a few weeks ago as well! And Matt is just an awesome guy <3 Combine it with beer and food and Steem talk... Must've been a great trip ;-) Cheers!
I remember taking trains in both the UK and Belgium and it was definitely cheaper and better in Belgium I must say
That place looks so cool and must have so much History, add to that the food looks great looks like a great place to visit
