Dear Diary: The Result of My Parathyroid Hormone Lab Test is So Shockingly High and it has been this for Years

in #philippines7 years ago

I went to the endocrinologist last week and I was hoping to get a good comforting service from the doctor but my consultation just resulted with nothing being done for my medical needs but I tried to complain about my parathyroid but my valid and sensible reports were just ignored. But I managed to get a request for a laboratory exam for an "Intact PTH", it is an examination if my parathyroid is overactive which is called something like secondary hyperparathyroidism of some sort.

It just means that my parathyroid has been spewing its hormones for so many long years already and it resulted from me having my bones get signs of brittleness like what you see from me today. I also suffer from bone-related pains, weakness, and dry skin. So it has been going on for years and I also experienced like what I am trying to tell the doctor that my parathyroid at one time ached and bulged a little that it is noticeable but the good doctor won't listen but instead told me that we can't see our parathyroid and that it is invisible.

PTH_Result.jpg

My parathyroid hormone result shown here is about 7300% higher than normal. It is not surprising that it transformed me from a beautiful, beautiful butterfly into a near monster-like Quasimodo creature. And it just saddens me, I could have not deserved this situation if I were given a good medical service. I just think that these doctors don't believe that some patients last long or live long or they care really with their patient's well-being.

My nurse reported my PTH result to my nephrologist and I will have to see another endocrinologist she referred me to. So I will bring this result, a phosphorus lab exam and some other to show it to the doctor. The doctor as I remember it is a surgeon, a reconstructive surgeon but I don't know if she does parathyroidectomy but I hope so since she is an endocrinologist too.

I hope that soon I will get y needed surgery so that in turn, it will alleviate some of my symptoms that makes me ill and gives me misery. I will just brave this through and will just stop if I cannot get the support that I need anymore since the surgeries are not a few and obviously will cost much. God help me.

Yeah that is nuts! And the last crappy doctor didnt even want to check (egomaniac). I hope this next doctor is caring and praying you all the best! Blessings @cryptopie

Thank you for your support and prayers @weirdheadaches
I hope that I would get some improvements on my heealth soon.
I now have a developing pain while eating now, quite a bothersome and just praying too that it would stop.

I am dumbfounded. I suspected it would be through the roof, but wow. The scary thing is it's been that high for YEARS. You need to get those out ASAP. When I had mine out my levels were around 750 - 800 and that was a big cause for concern for my doctors.
I'm sorry the results came back so escalated, but I'm glad at least now maybe the proper action will be taken.

You know I had this lump on the side of my neck and I noticed it even durin on my first months of being a dialysis patient. sometimes it aches a bit and I am pretty sure that it was not a lymph node plus I do know too how a normal neck looks like.
I still believe that it is still not too late as I am not blind yet. I can live with a deformity, even in my mouth and with pain but my concern right now is to save my vision @lizzyib

How are your calcium, calcitonin and calcitriol levels? Also I would advice for toxicology screening on Aluminium. Wish you good health.

I have no result yet on my calcium levels @anadikc but I bet it is low.
Even when I take calcium before it never normalizes.
Where do I request for that screening?
Are there any way I can get rid off aluminum in my system?

Drinking Diatomaceous Earth is probably the best way to rid your body of aluminum.

Yes, that one looks good.
The main thing is that it MUST be food-grade; and that one says that it is.
Start slowly with the diatomaceous earth though; like a quarter of a teaspoon in some water.

Read the part at the end of this article under the heading "A Dirt Cheap Solution" so that you get the right dosage.

Thank you Ma'am Linda for the information.
I am glad DE is available for purchase here in our local online store that I am using.
A bit expensive tho but I think it is worth it very much.

That is great that you are going to give it a try.
I really hope that it helps you.
We regularly use it in our home.

Ah I remember that Ma'am Linda Thank you.
But I have to look for it and finding it is quite a problem.

you can ask the nephrologist. they can send the sample for special testing as dialyisis causes aluminium toxicity . it need not be done frequently but if not done so far you can send it. i will ask my friends and will let you know.regards.

My dialysis nurse mentioned that to me, she said that aluminum toxicity will not come from my dialysis in the center but I won't be so sure about it tho.

if its possible to be sent to other centres- checking it once would be a useful parameter.

I will hope and pray for your recovery @cryptopie wish that I have something more to offer than my upvote and resteem.

I thank you from my heart for your support @antonette
I appreciate all your help.
God Bless you.

i hope you get well soon dear
this is so sad:(

I hope you get some better news soon, my friend. The guy that I take care of had problems that are similar... Hyperthyroidism. They irradiated it and almost killed him in the process. He went from a healthy 145 lbs in 2003 to 85 lbs now. It doesn't matter what, or how much he eats- no gain. He got depressed about the weight loss and they put him on anti-depressants- no help. They gave him more- no help. They gave him more- a little help, sometimes he felt ok, sometimes he doesn't. Oh, they tell him- you're bipolar- more medication. Now he lives on another planet in some galaxy far far away. He doesn't even know where he is half the time.

So, be careful my friend- I don't want to see you wind up worse, like my friend. He used to be an intelligent erudite person- now talking to him is like trying to have a conversation with a turnip!

Thank you Sir @richq11 for your sharing and concern.
I am sorry for your turnip friend, I mean friend but my case is different and I just need my parathyroid nipped a bit so that won't get much of that bone-drying hormone it blasts me with so I won't turn much of a quasimodo without a belltower to mind.
Thank you for your support and God Bless you.

My turnip friend has that problem as well. He's developed osteoporosis and his bones are as brittle as dry leaves. He turned 66 today!

I hope that he doesn't break a single bone Sir @richq11 and that he doesn't suffer much of a pain as I do and I also hope that he would be off that medication you said that he was taking if it just turns him into a tasty root crop.
Happy birthday to him too :)

Really, all I can see that's wrong with him (or the biggest thing) is that he's way overmedicated. I'll tell him Happy B-Day... God Bless!

Praying for you always @crytopie
Hugss xx

Thank you again @sunnylife for all your heart-warming support and prayers.
I can feel your hugs and kisses even from far far away.
God Bless you Ma'am,

Stay strong.
I know it's not easy.
God bless you Sir.:):)

Thanks @vallesleoruther for your help to @cryptopie.
I hope we find a doctor that will be knowledgeable and understanding enough for your situation @cryptopie.

God Bless.

Arnold,
Keep doing what you need to do. The wheels turn slowly in even the best medical models.

I know how hard it is to know what you need but still be at the mercy of doctors who know less about your condition and are too arrogant to admit it or more dangerously, too arrogant to even know they are misinformed.

I have, like you, had heated exchanges with this style of physician. Keep your cool, play to their ego and keep focused on the final outcome.

And keep us updated. You have many people eagerly awaiting to help once the preliminary tests are completed.

Strength can be drawn from faith and friends. You have an abundance of both. Stay strong. 😊

I will keep my cool as I know now how these doctors do their works.
I am just too impatient as my condition really is an emergency if you look at my intact PTH levels is off the charts.
STEEMIT friends are my strength, I cannot proceed without you but I will still do what I have to do even though it is hard and my family isn't interested supporting me that much.

Thank you @girlbeforemirror
