Greetings Steemers! I am James Clayton of the Cryptocurrency Collectors Club! -- http://www.cryptocollectorsclub.com

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

My wild adventures began in early 2013 when I was just a mundane art appraiser and entrepreneur. I had a successful small business that sold unique items all over the world, but with international sales, and so many times we would get scammed it was hard to get ahead. I finally started looking to see if there was some kind of electronic cash under development that could replace Paypal. After a little digging, I found Bitcoin! At the time it was around $90 a coin, so I bought two of them to see if my customers would be able to use it. I had no intentions of making it my life, really, I just wanted to test it for customers.

Then the next day the price was above $100, and even with that small profit I could see what was coming. I quickly maxed out some credit cards, not recommended, even though I did well with it, and I bought a bunch of AMD 280x graphics cards, way overpriced from scalpers, and then built two mining rigs and started mining Litecoin! I chose this as I did some quick research and heard that the dev was somehow connected to Google, and I knew that people would see tons of value in it and that Litecoin and Alts would soon follow the path of BTC. So I took my two BTC and bought a few thousand Litecoin.

A few weeks later I sold all the Litecoins for a couple thousand dollars total, and gave myself a nice little pat on the back, as if I was Gordon Gekko himself! To my jaw dropping and veins going ice cold horror, a few weeks later Litecoin shot up to $45 each, and I realized I could have paid off my house with a bit more patience! Then it was all over, I was hooked, line and sinker, crypto addict for life... I was on the hunt for the next great whale, the next Litecoin! I also noticed an opportunity as there were essentially no Alt websites yet, other than by an anon dev named Hazard, and someone else I now forget. I knew people couldn't trust anonymous people for reviews, and I had a talent for quick price evaluation, so I figured I maybe could be like a good version of Hazard? (No offense Hazard, and thanks for the inspiration)

So, I was one of the first people using my real name and writing about cryptos, reviewing them, learning along the way. I was clumsy and too brave at first, and at one point I was even threatened by some Mafia in the UK, or they sure acted like they were. Simply as I said their coin was no good as they were doing a brand heist, and therefore I said they are scamming, at that point they said: “We are going to war with you, do you know who we are, do you know who the boss is!!!!” They DDOSed my Website, tried to ruin my rep as anon scammers, but in the end, I think they were interested in what I was reviewing and so they left me alone. I tried to avoid them and be as polite as possible, realizing there could be some level of danger, and I was still annoyed they DDOSed my business website until I shut it down. Forcing me to learn to trade better fast.

That is what made me decide to go underground a bit more and make a private group that I would try to only invite good people in. So, the Cryptocurrency Collectors Club was born! In truth, to hide from what I believed to be organized crime in the world of cryptocurrency. Indeed, it is there and quite real, and way too connected to big money to not take seriously. That was my introduction to how there is a very dark side of money, and that not everyone was some naive idealistic person with their head in the clouds like myself. There are also many horrible people preying on the weak, and so I silently vowed to myself to somehow try and protect them -- As the entire thing that I hated most and drove me to Bitcoin, scammers, were here, and even worse.

Skip forward a few years and countless ups and downs, so this isn’t 1500 pages… and I am now a successful trader, writer, consultant, and I have what many consider the number #1 Alt group on Facebook. I am also a founder of the #1 Ethereum Alt, Expanse (EXP) — and while I am almost always working, I am doing what I love and following my bliss! I have helped many thousands of people over the years, and without any doubt, have had the best of times and the worst of times. These days, at last, I think crypto is finally moving away from the darker days of the anon scam devs and into the light of mainstream, with great projects like Steemit and others, and I truly love it. So I am very pleased to meet this wonderful community, and I thank you.

Good to see you on here James thank you for trying out the platform and sharing your story!

Dennis King I imagine? Yes, making the best of it. :)

Yep you got it!

Hey @cryptoclub - great to see you around. Looking forward to more of your contributions. Pretty cool, by this time tomorrow, with blocktrades, you can have the money in your account. Transfer took less than 2 minutes for me last night. Cashed out at an ATM with my Shift card this morning to pay some bills. I made an post here with a nod to you and Franko

I will just hold anything made here, this is really about being fair to the people in the CCC. After some thought, I think projects like Steemit are a great equalizer in social media, giving the small guy a great chance to compete for attention. So they have won me over. :)

cool story, bro. failed to mention how you banned users from posting steem links on your facebook group and labeled it spam.

monkey see monkey does, i guess ;)

Yes, some people wanted to post before it was allowed. I could care less about making $30 on Steemit and won't even bother to withdraw. That isn't even money to me. This is something different from referral links, and I needed time to research the project. The CCC is not your group, and tough luck if you couldn't follow simple rules like an adult and you had to behave like an entitled child. I banned one person who was a flat earther who was making a garbage scam project. No chance of success. I assume that is you? If not, then I didn't ban you, we have lots of moderators and it must have been someone else. You should have waited one more day. -- If you are the flat earth dev, I believe your project is pure scam based on your lack of a brain.

stop lie !!

"I could care less about making $30 on Steemit and won't even bother to withdraw. That isn't even money to me"

Either that or you were the one using gay slurs and cussing people out, but that moron left on their own before they could be banned for being a hateful worthless bigot. Glad you have Steemit, we don't accept everyone in the CCC. You must have some intrinsic value or ability to self moderate. "Cool story bro" -- Your name is Klaus G Umland from Spain? If so, then you rage quit on your own while speaking hate against gay people. No matter what, you are not worthy of being in the CCC, Steemit can't say no.

keep mute ppl karma will find u

Oh, your real name is Antonio Madeira. Almost nobody is really anonymous. Anyway, I didn't ban you. There have been no referral links allowed ever in the CCC. Steemit was just something new and the devs DID NOT approach me first, so we just saw a bunch of spam coming in. If you were banned for doing nothing wrong, tell me what your Facebook account is and I can get that reversed for you. (Although the monkey comment is pretty lame) The only person I banned for posting a Steem link I already added back in.

i understand. sorry about the comment, which was indeed pretty lame. i left the group, you didn't ban me.. I tought you understood steem and were being a "nazi" about it. I can see that's not the case.

take care. (who's Klaus G Umland? xD)

You can join the group again if you like. STEEM posts are allowed now. I just wasn't sure if they were pure referral links or what initially. STEEM is actually pretty cool, other than the bugs and exploits. :P

i may do that. thx! :) I'm not writing here anymore.. i dont feel content is properly curated.

Hi James, thanks for sharing your story with us. I've been a member of the CCC on Facebook for a while now, but I'm just now discovering steemit, reading the whitepaper and it just makes sense to me. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and your inspirational story.

u just give backup to scammers !!
and kick who not agree with you!
u not fairly kind of !

You're not a decent person

+280X waas not exists In thet time you are talking about

This was the guide I used to build my first mining rig, so whenever this guide came out, that was the time I built them. http://www.cryptobadger.com/build-your-own-litecoin-mining-rig/

Oh you are Yoni Berger, some pump and dump moron from Israel? You certainly are slow. Stupid people can't be anonymous, so thanks for telling me who you are. I did ban you from the CCC for being one of the dumbest people out of 6100, along with a flat earther making a scam ICO. I don't care how much you scammed with PnDs or how much Bitcoin you have. You were given a second chance, I let you back in, and you were so stupid you blew it again. You added no value and you were FUDing developers.

Pro tip: check github for development rather than trust trolls in the trollbox.

You do manipulate people while you filter all those who not agrre with you because you are weak loves power
You have no right to speak on decentralization with such access

I share my experiences honestly, what is your real name? Are you some scam dev I called out? Share your real name, or as far as I am concerned, you are just some scammer from the past and I have zero respect for you. If you were banned from the CCC, there are a dozen moderators, it likely wasn't even me and you are sad over what someone else did, only people scamming or spamming get banned, you are likely one of those. If I have more access than you, that is called hard work and skill, and not being some coward hiding behind an alias. Who the hell is Stompy? Lastly, the CCC is NOT decentralized, it is Facebook. I believe in decentralization far more than you, unless you have the balls to share your real identity, take a hike, nobody trusts you.

Everyone has a right to speak, if nobody is listening to you, maybe you are not offering any value.

Hi James

Thank you for telling your story on Steemit, nice to hear your passion and enthusiasm for bitcoin and crypto!
