They happen in threes apparently

I can remember growing up and the older generation used to say bad thing always happen in threes. I am by no ways superstitious, but when things go wrong normally it is more than one thing at a time. Over the last few weeks I have had my share of bad luck and have had 3 things go wrong so I am hoping that is it for the time being.

A few weeks a go the sewerage pipe burst at the house we rent out in Durban and it was not a straight forward fix. The pipe that burst was from an external building and the driveway and pathway had to be dug up. It eventually had to be changed and with all the extra labor costs it wasn't cheap. Unfortunately it didn't fall under the insurance for the property and was extra funds that needed to be found.

Last week the dishwasher went on the blink and needed to be repaired. That wasn't overly expensive ,but it all adds up. Then over the weekend my sons laptop blew and we think it was from the excessive power failures that must have caused a surge. That would be easy though as that is covered by the insurance. I phoned them today and it isn't covered as it is something that can be moved around and you need extra cover for that .

I had no idea it had been changed and never saw that in the fine print. Unfortunately it is totally dead and not worth repairing even though it is an expensive gaming one. We have had surges before that have blown things up and fried the insides, but always have been covered by the insurance. Bit of a let down as this is something we hadn't banked on replacing and is not an impulse buy. This is something we will have to help him save for.

Luckily or unlucky whatever way you look at it is the three things that have gone wrong in the last few weeks and I am hoping that is it for the time being.

That sucks! Is that extra rider for the insurance cheap enough that it makes sense to add it or is it so expensive that you might as well just plan on buying a new laptop each time it happens? Hopefully the bad luck is behind you now!

I need to look into it still and I am not sure. Because a laptop is a movable item they want you to put the all risks on it and not just under your household contents. It makes sense and I am hoping it is a small add on or I will move insurance companies.I am hoping that they will want your business and will just include them.

The bad luck in threes comes from the great war, actually. Soldiers would never light 3 cigarettes on one match, no matter how low in the trenches they sat. The reason for this was that 3 people grouped up were an easy target for a sniper.

And now you know!

I actually knew that and had forgotten it. I have visited the trenches and it wasn't only snipers. They were literally about 10 meters apart at some parts of the line and I wouldn't even be the second guy with the match. Thanks for reminding me about this one.

Well my furnace went out i had 6 cavities when i went to the dentist and i had to bring my car to the shop to get a few things fixed. So hopefully that is my 3 bad things and i got some good karma coming my way.

Lol. That is a terrible list of three and you are due for some better luck for sure. The dreaded dentist is a good one to get out the way and to have 6 fillings is a long appointment.

My question is , what is bloody covered?? 😂

They change their rules all the time and was shocked that the laptop isn't covered and you have to pay extra. It seems this is the only change and now need to update and pay extra. The house is covered, but apparently this is wear and tear and you don't delay when there is raw sewerage going into the garden. I told the plumber just fix it and I knew it was going to be big when he was still there on day three.

Yes - the THREE theory!! I grew up with that one too. People would die in threes, celebrities and locals alike. I believe people are hardwired to seek patterns. I'm sure the could find two or twenty bad things in a week, or GOOD things happening in threes, but we are also wired for remembering negative vs positive events, as a survival mechanism. I'm also not superstitious, but it's fun to look for connections, synchronicity, patterns, and meaning in a world filled with seemingly random events and inexplicable chaos.
