Technology Changing How We Travel

Forget the electric cars as that will happen and be part of our everyday life in the future. I am talking about other modes of travel like ships and aeroplanes. Cost savings are leading the way making trips more efficient and more profitable. I find this super interesting as change is inevitable as we learn and discover new things.

Ship designers have worked out and tested the new shape called the X bow which goes against everything we knew before. The old bow was used to ride the wave and then push the water away. This used to put the entire structure of the boat under huge stresses and repairs were inevitable over time.

Not that far off all those years ago from what is now the go to design.

The design is not that new however as the Vikings had something similar and has taken centuries for us to work out these benefits today. The shape allows the bow to pierce through the wave instead of ramming through it.

The new shape which is replacing the old bow allows the ship to ride through waves without reducing the speed. It cuts through the water by gliding through the wave without pushing the water away.This saves on time as speed can be maintained and stormy seas wont stop shipping like ferries anymore.

The X Bow has many benefits and namely it doesn't heave and pitch so much protecting cargo and making the journey more comfortable for passengers. The slamming of the waves compared to the old design is reduced hugely making it far more comfortable for everyone on board.

If one looks at the shape it is basically the opposite of what was around for all those years going way back to the wooden sailing ships. This design has been around since 2006 and is only now taking effect as new ships are being built with this design today.There are over 100 ships being built with this design now and more are on their way. We are talking over 10 years before it started going mainstream on something that was already proven nearly 15 years ago. I think it is in our nature to fight change no matter what is is.
