Go fishing with your vote

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

We talk about the importance of curation and commenting all the time and it is what makes this place hold it's value and tick. The beauty of this system is you can reward decent content and users you follow with your free votes everyday.

I haven't always had a policy of not self voting and there is nothing wrong with self voting , but this is my reasoning now for not doing it personally.. You have 20 percent of voting power free every day and whilst you are small this is a huge tool for your growth . If you vote you must comment at the same time.It is a cardinal sin not too and you are missing out on a possible following, but receiving a possible vote in return that is worth more than yours.

If you are handing out 8 votes a day and upvoting your own posts you may be missing a trick on your own growth. As I said earlier it is your own prerogative and are free to do what you think is best. I used to self vote when I just started and soon realized my vote was worthless and used it as bait to get bigger rewards in return.

You have to see Steem as a game and once you see that aspect you will have more fun. Go fishing with your vote and see what you can catch. I can guarantee you if you comment properly and vote accordingly you will receive more vote value back than what you gave. That is how you grow and play the game. I vote all comments I receive on my posts and don't even check if that person has voted for me. If you have taken the time to comment then it is a thank you for reading my post.

This place is about having fun and enjoying yourself whilst helping others. We all need each other to grow and that is the beauty of this place.

100% agree... It's crazy to me when people don't upvote their commenters... Steem has the very unique position of being able to thank our audience financially... by that fact alone Steem should be the most popular social media platform ever... but Steemians don't take advantage of that because they mistakenly believe they'll get a better ROI on voting on popular posts. If you're the only person that votes on a comment, you get the full 25% back, and a build a grateful community. This platform has a serious lack of content consumers because you can't grow your account by consuming... but that can change with comment upvotes.

Most posts have lots more votes than comments.

I am so small, you can't really go by mine, but there are a couple of trails that sometimes hit mine and you know that even though the votes show, none of them read it, none of them comment and all together they leave nothing.

A drive by if you will.....LOL....

A self upvote or two was an accident when I first tried using BUSY. It is defaulted to self vote and I was a little horrified when I posted and it showed I upvoted myself.

Some time later I upvoted a few of my posts on their last day. Mostly I don't though.

You pick up that comment voting trick from @meesterboom? It is ok you may admit it ;) As you say though a person should comment when voting and heck if it is good enough to comment on then sure as hell vote anyway.

I am just too damn lazy and even though I try not to have too many votes on auto because I prefer to manually make them commenting really comes in phases, maybe I am in sync with the moon or something. I do know the power of commenting but I also know the bloody effort of keeping up with it so I try not to make something I do because I want to become work.

I also like to just use tipu since it is a bit of advertising right... but also a catch 22 or whichever because I need to comment to give the bloody tip, go figure.

hey @penderis thank you for the tipuvote. I also use steemauto for voting for certain users, but have made a habit of whoever I vote for I will comment these days. It is hard i know so some slip through but the bulk get a comment every day. It is a lot of work I agree and some days it is hard just to stay up with them.

This is very true. One of the things I've noticed is that being active and interacting with a wide network of people on this platform is hugely valuable in terms of growth opportunities. Not even having a lot of stake (depends on how much, of course) can compete with that.

Suppose you're a large dolphin and you never venture beyond your own blog. What will happen is that your comment section will be filled with fish a lot smaller than you commenting and hoping for an upvote. But your conversations will lack depth because you haven't been building relationships. Few other bigger players will find themselves gravitating towards as you do not engage them in conversations. As a result, you will lack a network and you'll end up fading out of the platform and delegating to bid bots.

Consistently and regularly engaging people and building relationships while totally disregarding the external price of STEEM really pays off in the long term. That's the way you maximize your impact.

Hi markku. Spot on and the ones that don't venture out of their blogs will stagnate.

I did so self voting but did stop with it a month or so ago. I do miss the curation rewards to be honest but now I can cast a lot more votes!

I have found the curation rewards are way better by not self voting. Play around with the times and don't stick to 15 minutes and you will see a huge difference. I don't know what times you are voting on and you may have a few set up way earlier. I have a handful on steemauto but save for manual as well.

Also do use autovote. Most of them have been configured to cast the vote at minute 14.
All the rest is used for, just like you, for manual curation, which I do enjoy the most!

Actually you have way more than that....;)
Lol just noticed that this was my 6000 “post” :)

Congrats on hitting 6000 now for 7000.

Totally agree with the post and would only add the community aspect.

I want to use every single voting power I have to promote great content like yours and kind of "give back" to them.

Thank you for the kind words. Community is at the heart of everything and always will be. I wish I had more votes most days as it is getting harder to stretch them across everyone and still leave some value.

Hello @cryptoandcoffee! This is a friendly reminder that a Partiko user has just followed you! Congratulations!
