I just wrote a post about how China is implementing the Death Penalty for crypto currencies like they have in place for pot possession.
ICOs in China are getting out of hand. Word of mouth on successful ICO for both the companies involved and investors can easily spark a frenzy of copycats and people wanting to jump on the get rich quick bandwagon. The government knows that things can get out of hand very quickly and will do anything to protect the public and ultimately protect themselves from things going wrong. In China frenzies can quickly turn into uprisings a thing that the government want to prevent from happening.
I can't imagine China banning Cryptocurrencies. First of all they are a MAJOR player in the mining industry of BTC (the biggest by far) Secondly, even if it would be illegal they will never be able to shut it down. Bitcoin miners have too much power over villages where the police, electricity companies and the politicians are under payroll. Third, if China bans Bitcoin I will invest much more money in it. Invest in everything China bans! Erhmm Google, Facebook Wiki ;)
