Ethereum's New DDOS "EXTCODESIZE" Spam Attack

in #ethereum10 years ago

The Ethereum network was just attacked by an unknown assailant. This attacker slowed down the speed of blocks by about two to three times what it normally takes to process a transaction. Here, and this video, I describe the issue, as well as the short, medium, and long-term fixes that have been suggested by Vitalik Buterin, and the Ethereum Foundation team.

So the higher ether price in the future, the more expensive it will be to ddos it?

Not necessarily the price of Ether- that will be irrelevant. What matters more is the price charged, in Ether, per transaction ..."Gas". This can change, as it's simply another name for "transaction fee".

It's purpose is to pay the miners of the network for their work, AS WELL AS deter spammers, by costing them for the attack. This fee failed, in this transaction's case, to do much deterring :)

Ah, yes! Thanks for the answer!

Been a long time eth-supporter, do you know where I could find more information about the devcon conference? Does it get recorded and uploaded on youtube or somewhere?

Btw, made some pretty good trades on the last "fahrt nach hause" thing they tried on the blockchain. :P

I am kind of a fan, of your channel. I come and have a look everyday to see if there is an new news. Those bitcoin fanboy hate ethereum, and go out of their way to say it is scam.. The applications will kill bitcoin price...

Thanks, my friend :) I'm really enthused to know really positive-vibing people like yourself check out my stuff. I do agree, there are very tunnel-focused crypto folks out there, who only see their coin and nothing else. In Ethereum's case, Im more than positive that they might miss a serious boat. Their loss, I suppose, though I respect their opinions.

Cheers, clonewarz, catch you next time and thanks for watching!
