Arachnid symmetry II.

     About three months ago while I was in some cleaning work in the garden of the institution where I study, I found a spider but more than that it was its unusual web that surprised me, it had a very different symmetry than I have seen, it had many lines in its center in the form of "zigzag", captivated me so much that I took a photo and published it, (you can see the publication here). At that time I could not take pictures of several directions for the little time available, since then I had not seen anything like it.

     This morning while watering the ornamental plants that my grandmother has, I was surprised when I find a zigzag net between the flowers and in the center was the one who wove it, last a while watching and come to the conclusion that it is the same genus or spider spice that I had found at that time three months ago, only this one is a little smaller in size. It was both curiosity about these very rare spiders and their web that I was forced to investigate something about it.

     With the Internet a little more stable I used the "powerful Google" to start my work as a researcher, after a while comparing my photos with the spiders I found in the search engine, I found a genre called "Argiope", the same amount with many similar characteristics of which the spider has I have shared this time, come to the conclusion that it should be part of this genre.

     Argiope is a genus of araneomorphic spiders of the family Araneidae, with females around 3 times larger than males. With this last feature I can say that the first spider that I found was female and this one that I show you is male, I thought about gathering them, but later on reading I discovered that after mating, the male dies and serves as food for the female, (as always the females have to have submissives to the males lol), then leave that poor male alone and calm to live a little longer, the female is so dangerous that the male when trying to woo it must knit a thread of security to escape in case of an attack of this.

     The Argiopes is distributed throughout the world and among its features are; a remarkably colorful abdomen, its aspect of bright eyes and that's where the argiope name comes from, which in Greek means "bright eyes", the web is practically invisible with two variants in its form either in cross or in "X" and in zigzag (this last form is what I have achieved on a couple of occasions counting this). The reading helped me to discover that the cobweb that I have found is known as "stabilization".

     The reproduction of these spiders begins with the wild mating that I mentioned previously, from that the female lays her eggs by placing her bag in the net (the bag contains between 400 and 1,400 eggs) very close to her to be protected from future predators . These spiders have a poison that is not considered serious for humans and they have no interest in biting or at least that they feel threatened and need to defend themselves.

     This last I have checked, since I moved the container of the plant where the spider was that I show you today, besides that I took many pictures in the different angles and at no time she tried to leave, she always stayed in the center of the net. For me it was too impressive to find this amazing spider and its spectacular network with its arachnid symmetry.
