STRANGE GORGEOUS MULTICOLOURED HEIRLOOM VEGETABLES

Hey everyone, this was really a sweet day. I will doing doing another blog featuring my mega harvest (biggest yet) but for now the incredible colours of all these heirloom vegetables in my recent harvest.

Any guesses what this is? Had I not personally purchased these I would have no clue..

This is a Brinjal, they take so much longer to grow than the black ones and only get to a third of the size at best. I was not really sure when to harvest these. They stay a light green for weeks, finally it changed colours and this was my Q to harvest and so I did.

I cut them in around 15mm slivers and baked them for around 15 minutes a side. To be totally honest they taste just like the black ones albeit smaller. Best value for money and garden space efficiency I would say not really worth it relative to the black variety whom have higher yields, these do however grow more prolifically and in larger volumes per plant!

Here my landlord holding freshly harvested blackberries and his first White/Yellow Aubergine for the proverbial taste test!

I purchased Tahitian Butternuts, for some reason I doubt this is, a butternut sure, just not Tahitian, they must have mixed up the seeds it will be super interesting to see how they taste.

As stated on other blogs I buy all my GMO free seeds here www.livingseeds.co.za

I recently purchased some Giant Glass Corn (mielies) I was elated to give them a try and so I did. Planted 2 months odd ago we have eaten from this crop like kings. Really delicious and the colours are truly incredible. Most Giant Glass corn cobs have many colours, however this one really surprised me, a 100% burgundy cob, how incredibly pretty is this? Top one traditional giant glass corn and bottom the burgundy!

The green wrapped corn below sadly only got to this size, either the species or nutrient deficiencies, will open up and taste soon, as all the rest of my veggies I am sure delicious as well!

It has come to the end of the onion season in South Africa December is. As we are approaching mid summer, the onions were planted in the Winter season and been in the ground around 6 months now. I harvested them all together with all my corn. I will plant a few more rows of corn however, onions again beginning Winter around April this year!

These are not to be eaten. I harvested them too late so what I plan to do here is dry them out and plant the seeds for another nice pre Winter crop, wish me luck! Stunning colours right?

This is my first attempt at mielies (corn) given that a huge success. What I have learnt this time around is the right time to harvest is when the corn looks a decent size and the 'hairs' have just started to die off. If you leave the hairs to totally die off, it will sadly be too late and the corn will be to hard to eat, the up side is that you can dry out and plant the seeds which I will do.

Keeping in mind that all of the featured vegetables above are heirloom, NO GMO on this property EVER, to think this is the way nature intended, rather remarkable indeed.

Nature the incredible.

Have an amazing week.
