#What Is a Relationship?

Relationship in my own understanding is the closeness between two or more people. A person can have relationship or can established relationship with as many people as possible. It is not bad to say “I am in a relationship with this person or that person” . What makes relationship good or wrong is the activities and the type of relationship you are keeping with that person.

Types of Relationships:

(1) Co-dependent Relationship:

Co-dependent Relationship is a type of relationship where one person or group of friends are dependent on a particular friend or relative for everything. What do I mean? In this type of relationship one party is playing the part of giving and the other party is playing the part of taking. The relationship is not balanced. Sometimes it varies as if it takes turn sometimes the part y of given will start playing the part of taking and in some other time the one taking will start giving. What am saying is that this type of relationship cannot be balanced. In some occasions the one playing the part of giving may forget about his or her own needs and focus on his or her responsibilities towards his or her partner.

Characteristics of a co-dependent relationship:

One person will take responsibility of the other
Always trying to please the other party
Being afraid of losing your partner
Going extra miles to meet up with your responsibility

(2) Platonic Relationship

A relationship is said to be platonic when it is not too deep. A platonic relationship is not casual and is not deep either. It can be a relationship of same-sex friendship or opposite sex friendship, between classmates, between co-workers, co-athletes. This is a type of relationship one can have in social media. You can have a platonic relationship with opposite sex without sex. It is for socializing, helping each other in times of need and having someone to talk to outside your home and you feel safe.

(3) Casual Relationship:'

It is a relationship that has little or no attachment to it. Just as the name implies, it has no responsibility, no demand, no commitment. People in this relationship can stay without call, visit and there will be no feelings of ills. No appointment but any chance of meeting each other will still exchange a exciting moments together though no much attachment.

How Causal Relationship Can Be Developed:

• In a market square; One can just go for shopping and meet a dealer or a seller who show high level of responsibility
  that will attract affection. With such, a casual relationship may spark up.

• School or campuses: Students of opposite or same sex may develop casual relationship over the years as they
  school together without romance or mutual feelings attached.

• Religious community: People the same faith could also develop casual relationship by congregating in churches,
  camps, retreats, and conferences. This could begin by appreciating ones perfume or an admiration over good
  performances.

• Neighbourhood: According to the old adage that says, “ A good neighbour is better than a distant uncaring brother”.
  By kind gesture to ones neighbour can lead to casual relationship without intimacy attached to it.

(4) Toxic Relationship:

A toxic relationship is a relationship which is not intentional and beneficial to both parties, one may be on the receiving side to the detriment of the other it is a relationship in which one person is selfish without care or respect for the other person’s principles and emotions. It is often harmful to the lesser person in the relationship.
Examples: A boss dating his subordinate. So in that case the boss will insist on having things done the way he wish without a recourse to the feelings of the person he is relating with. The lesser gender will be feeling inferior to the superior. And may not be bold enough to open up or speak out. He or she will be dying in silence and in pretense.

Characteristics of toxic relationship are

• Imposition
• Subjugation
• Intimidation
• Harassment
• Inferiority complex
• Timidity
• Cowardice

Inclusion:

Relationship is made to be mutual and adding value or worth to personality so any relationship that does not meet the above requirements is not worth involving oneself into it. Relationship should not be by force but by mutual agreement with terms well stated. Any relationship that is forceful and subjugation should be done away forthwith or reported to legal agencies for prompt intervention.**
