Steemit Engagement Challenge S3W1 - Which places in your hometown are little known but worth visiting by @concord-leo
I am very happy to participate in this week challenge. There are many attractive places to visit in my locality but I will like to write one, Meenakshi Amman Temple Madurai.
I stay in Madurai where I study. I love the city because it is an ancient city in Tamil Nadu, India. Meenakshi Amman temple is a very famous temple in South India. By what I read, it took the reign of three kings before the temple was completed. It is a beautiful art work to behold. A lot of carvings, sculpture, moldings and different gods.
There are many shops around meenakshi Amman temple where people sell different commodities like clothes, jewelries, bags, shoes, cooking utensils, food, snacks and various other things. Goods and commodities are very cheap in the shops located around the temple and that is why it is my best place to shop.
Meenakshi Amman temple is an amazing magnificent structure to behold. It is the tallest building in Madurai. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Meenakshi. It has four entrances (gates) and they are: East gate, West gate, South gate and the North gate.
The temple is a very busy one where people troop in and out to offer prayer to Meenakshi. We met different people from different race and country who came from far and near to offer prayer. There are cleaners who keep the temple and its environ clean.
Phones and cameras are not allowed inside the temple. There are police officers at every gate of the temple to safeguard the belongings of worshippers who had dropped their properties before going inside the temple. Provisions are made on where to drop your belongings like phones, cameras etc. worshippers are not also allowed to wear footwear inside the temple, you are meant to keep your footwear at the entrance of the gate because it is believed that inside the temple is a holy ground
I couldn’t take a shot of the internal view of the temple because phones are not allowed but the temple has great sculptures inside.

We decided to purchase few items in the shops around the temple. I was amazed to know how things were so cheap there. We were able to purchase few dresses, travelling bags and jellewries. Gold, silver and diamond jellewries sold around the temple were affordable and authentic.

Meenakshi Amman temple is a beautiful temple and guess it mainly used for worship with it adorable gate made from north , south east, west and I believe the spent a lot of money 🤑💰 in construction of that building .
