Huey over DC
I was going through some of my old photos earlier when I came across this shot. I'd been in Washington DC a few years back to shoot the Cherry Blossom Festival and the whole time I was there helicopters kept buzzing over the Jefferson Memorial/Tidal Basin area. As a kid I was fascinated by military hardware and so I had to snap a few shots as they flew by. Unless I'm badly mistaken, this is a Bell UH-1 Huey (the old Vietnam War workhorse) with the Washington Monument in the background. The pilot with his elbow hanging out the window like he's cruising along in a car has amused me greatly.

It looks like some kind of a federal helicopter, judging by the markings, but not military. Do you know why it and the others were flying around there? It looks kind of low, based on where the monument is in relationship to it, though I guess the angle of the photo could be messing with the depth.
It was quite low but I have no clue why they were flying. Also saw a Blackhawk and a Sea King that were painted olive drab/green instead with the same markings, all flying over the same area. At the time I thought that the Blackhawk or the Sea King might be flying as Marine One but didn't see any escort or anything else that might give me a clue whether that was the case.
Interesting. You would think they would keep a higher altitude and thus a lower profile if anyone important were on board. Maybe they were there to take a look at the crowds? Who knows. :)
Not I! Unless they were staying low to make it harder to target with a SAM, that'd make more sense. This was taken back in 2016, there'd been a major terror attack earlier that day in Europe so that could have had something to do with it as well.
