A few monthes ago I posted that the VPK class asked to plant Amish deer tongue lettuce and that they did all the work themselves.

This what the package of seeds looked like when we planted the seeds. The children have been checking on and watering the seeds all this time. They were heart broken when of the smaller children pulled some of their plants out of the soil. Well today I went out before I started work a took a picture of their hard work out come.

Only one plant survived the other classes children but there is enough for everyone to get a taste. They ask every time they see me it it is time to taste the lettuce and I think it is now time for them to taste what they grew. I enjoy teaching children to grow food and get enjoyment out of their excitement.

By teaching children to grow food you are giving them a chance to provide food for themselves later on.
Once the children get use to planting seeds and seeing what they planted grow they want to keep planting seeds. After Our cold 2 weeks ofthe year pass I will see if the children want to try to plant starter plants. To get them use to planting that way. The more I can teach them about gardening the better off they will be in the future.

My Hope is to give these children a healther future by being able to grow their own food even if it is in containers.

oh, that is sad some got pulled, but their one survivor looks great! Maybe you could hang the next ones? at least out of the little kid's reach?

I am thinking of making something to put around it so the little kids can't get into it.

Yeah, that might work too...maybe the kids will have a solution...

Awesome that at least one plant survived! So agree on them learning by doing...

It gets a little hard keeping all the plants with little children around.

Great excercise for the kids to learn how to grow their own food.

Yay! That's so cool. It's neat to see how your project worked out.

Nice you you have potential in photography you can join here!
