One Page Comic: Zelda Fan Art - (Tutorial included)

Howdy everyone! Tonight I present you a one page comic of Zelda.

This comic is not my usual funny comics because of two main reasons.

1. I just got some free time from work, but starting tomorrow I will go back to 12 hours 7 day work shifts (but after that is 1 week with no work :D).
2. This time I wanted to practice some different comic concepts, which I would love to explain in a little bit.

First of all let's see how the different layers I used for the comic

Sketch

Here's where I materialized the idea I had in my mind. I wanted to have one big panel focusing in a battle between Link and Ganon. So basically I started backwards on the story, first the end and later how it should start. I then added another 1/4 frame to show some detail, maybe the sword or something else... I ended up going for the sword and just a quarter of a heart left. Then I added he two small frames to add context and drama. The first one show's a close up to the ear and the sweat, you can appreciate here how the atmosphere is tense. Then we get to see Link all sweaty and beaten to solidify the idea that he's having a tough time.

Ink

This is actually a 4 layer group that I used for inking. Here's where I added the details of the characters and the scene. One layer was used for the frames, another one for pretty much everything related to Link, one more just for Ganon and the last one for the flames. I like to make more layers once things are starting to overlay on top of each other, that way is easier to delete some lines without compromising the lines on top.

Color

Then comes color. This layer has the main color scheme of the art. Nothing to complicated here. This layer goes below the ink layer. I'd like to add that I was very happy on how the color layer turned out except for maybe Ganon, the colors I choosed for him aren't the best and it kinda looks weird

Highlights

This layer is used for shadows and lights. Since my art is very basic, I don't go crazy with the shadows or lights, it's just the base color but either darker or lighter, depending on the effect I want to add. It's still very difficult for me to imagine how the light interacts with the characters and the rest of the objects... that's something for sure I need to practice more.
To be honest it was also getting kinda late and I had to rush on some of the highlighted effects... again, something I need to keep practicing.

And that's the comic, a battle scene of Link vs Ganon, where Link is really struggling against a powerfull enemy. What do you think about it? do you think I capture the moment well? Is there something missing?

I liked making this post. I hope it's of some help to all the people who want to venture in making comics or are already making but want to improve. Again I'm just a noob and I'm still learning, but I want to share what I learn and discover with all of you :D
