Syria is the New Iraq
The Forever War in Syria has officially begun as Tillerson, without 60% of the diplomats that left the State Dept. in protest in 2017, laid out a 5 point plan of goals that can never be reached for Syria. The U.S. only current has about 2,000 special forces in Syria, working with Kurdish YPG militia. Al-Assad has won the civil war with only 3 resistance areas left with about 2 million people. Overall there are about 18 million Syrians. It’s not clear how the U.S. would or could reduce Iranian influence and Syria does not have weapons of mass destruction.
The U.S. however appears intent on keeping tensions high. The U.S. position on al-Qaeda in Syria has been ambiguous as well, at times when they were fighting against the regime the U.S. had no issue with their presence, but now they are brought in again as an excuse for the U.S. to stay. Meanwhile Turkey is displeased that the U.S is training and arming a new 30,000 man Kurdish militia. There seems to be no realistic goal for continued U.S. presence, nor clarity on U.S. troop levels. ISIL is all but eliminated, but Russia and Iran have been successful in keeping al-Assad in charge… the U.S. appears content to continue meddling and stirring the pot in middle-east affairs.

Keep those war machines well oiled, to keep them lucrative. The never ending freedom excuses keep it running...but when was the last time the US have fought for that very freedom?
That's what we always do. We keep meddling and we keep fighting. When will it ever end?
Yes, i agree
