Microplastic contamination ubiquitous in Drinking Water
Drinking water samples from more than a dozen nations were assessed. The U.S. was found to have the highest contamination with 94% containing bits of plastic particles. Previously contamination from plastic fibers had been more directly linked oceans and from the consumption of seafood. In addition to the concern for consuming plastics themselves, microfibers can also harbor pathogens. There is also no telling how many nano size plastics are in drinking water because that difficult research has yet to be performed.
Astoundingly 83% of water samples from all over the world were found to be contaminated by microplastics. In Germany, 24 beer brands were studied and all were found with particles and fragments of plastics. Microplastics are also volatile in the air we breathe and fall to the ground during rainfall. There are many sources of contamination, but one is that each washing machine cycle can release 700,000 fibers and also that most clothes dryers vent directly to the open air. The unintended consequences of having plastics permeate every part of our environment and their health impacts are certainly frightening.

yes, that is the crux of the matter. move away from plastic based material economy to one with sustainable/biodegradable materials. but right now we are continuing down the path of oil.
