Unboxing and Review of the Sony XBR-75X850E 75-Inch 4K Ultra HD with HDR Smart LED TV

Today I am sharing with you the Unboxing and Review of a purchase that I was so excited about! he Sony XBR-75X850E 75-Inch 4K Ultra HD with HDR Smart LED TV. Granted that I bought this about a little over a month ago, I finally got it mounted, setup, and almost working perfectly. I have always wanted to have a TV that took up almost an entire wall where I could re-live the movie-going experience in the comfort of my own home.

a 75-inch television is not the largest I could have purchased and it definitely is not the "top-of-the-line, with all the bells-and-whistles," but for the price and the quality of satisfaction reviews and feedback I read before buying, I finally dove in and purchased one. I actually stood at the store for 4 hours debating between this unit and the 75-inch Samsung before finally settling on this.

After I paid for it, I had to have the TV delivered, meaning I had to wait another day before I could enjoy the purchase I had just made. The TV and Accessories in the box were just too big for my car - and I have a fairly large SUV. It was also too heavy for just my wife and me to carry to-and-from the car.

This also leads me to the unboxing video - Unfortunately, there isn't one. When it was delivered, they placed the box in the middle of the living room so recording an unboxing video proved a little difficult given that there was no room and the house was a mess. Because the TV was so big and because it was delivered early in the morning after we just woke up, we ended up just unboxing it quickly.

The box was the typical packaging you would expect from a very large TV. To unbox it, you had to place it on the ground and unlock it from the bottom by releasing a few plastic locking mechanisms on the box itself. You then lift the top half of the box up to expose the TV which was mounted on styrofoam supports.

Because I don't have an unboxing video for you, I will instead share a video of the TV after I finally got it mounted.

In the Video above, you can see the clarity, crisp color, and quality of the movie playing, which happened to have also been FREE for purchasing the TV - Spiderman Homecoming 4k 2160p UHD HDR version, which I downloaded from Google Play. As a gift for buying this android loaded TV, Google offered 1 Free 4K UHD Movie and I selected this one since I had not seen it before - and you keep it for life. You also get a 1-year free subscription to Google Play Music.

This Television was easy to unbox but terribly difficult to mount - It is thin at about 1 to 2.1-inches however heavy as @#$% (excuse my language) - especially when it is just me and my wife doing the mounting. I didn't want to pay for the mounting service on something I thought I could do on my own - lesson learned. Spend the few extra dollars and have it professionally mounted. The mount we purchased was also to blame since it was one of those swivel-and-pull-out-in-any-direction mounts so there was only 2 holes/bolts that you had to perfectly lift and align the back of the TV to, unlike my smaller Samsung LED which had two latches you just had to elevate and drop down on a bar to mount. What is worse is that we will probably never even swivel and/or pull out this TV from the wall.

As you can see above, you have plenty of connections for all kinds of peripherals and devices that you may want to connect to the TV. It also has Bluetooth and wifi built in so you can connect devices wirelessly - I purchased a pair of Sony Bluetooth theater speakers and a Soundbar (which I will review in a later post) and had them connected wirelessly.

You have the option to use the Sony android remote packaged with the television or the televisions Smartphone App in order to control the TV. Using the remote you can press and hold the talk button and command the TV to perform functions using the pre-installed Google Assistant. Having Android and Google Assistant pre-installed also makes this TV easy to connect to my Google Home and Google Wifi network for easy automation.

The only drawback that I have noticed was when I compared this television to Sony's higher-end model, the 75X900E. This TV has an Edge-lit LED, meaning the pictures/colors are projected from the edge of the screen toward the center, so the quality and color details fade as they move away from the edge, unlike the 75X900E which has a full-array of pixels allowing it to emit colors and images all over the screen. Side-by-side the image quality and sharpness is somewhat noticeable, but by itself - not at all noticeable.

Pricewise, I purchased the TV for $1,799 on Black Friday and used an $800 Gift Card to bring it just under $1000 USD, which made this a great deal.

This television is great if you enjoy watching older non-HD and 1080p movies as well. What sets this apart from other TVs such as the Samsung (aside from having an Android operating system) is its ability to upscale all content to or near 4K. I was told that these Sony TVs are known for their processing power and its ability to upscale lower quality sources from 480-1080. The screen has a matte finish that tones down reflections.

Finding a place to store the box was a challenge. It is HUGE!

If you are in the market for a 75-inch television, look no further. I would highly recommend the Sony XBR-75X850E. It has a ton of features, loads of pre-installed apps and freebies, and overall, AMAZING picture quality.
