So... about a week ago I returned from a 9 month.... let's call it hiatus.

If I am being honest, about the only thing that prompted my return was a bit about bitcoin on the news that prompted me to pull up a crypto price app. I noticed Steem was doing quite well, far better than the $.10 it kept hovering around at the time of my departure at least.

Let's start here with some "back for a couple weeks" observations;

Back For A Couple Weeks Observations!

First thing I saw was the ability to add an image so everyone wasn't represented by a grey silhouette. I made the argument before that people needed a way to connect with their accounts or at least represent part of themselves. This, with a display name, basic profile page and join date really helped accomplish this. Here is a link to Bounties For Badges, a post I made awhile ago that I still feel very strongly is relevant today. I see people adding and making their own, which is great, but shouldn't it be added as a feature of steemit itself?

Beyond that, I don't know that I see a whole lot of difference. Now, this a casual surface observation, I haven't looked at the hardforks, updates etc etc....

HOW DARE HE!

I am not attacking the site. I dropped all of my frustration at the door when I left, and didn't pick it up when I came back through.

Although, I am a little confused. I made an assumption that the change in pricing was possibly based on content improvement, would it be wholly incorrect to maybe say it is more about a general upswing in the majority of cryptocurrency we have seen?

I've been thinking I might start a semi regular post on here while I rideshare driver with Lyft. I haven't started just yet as with some fires in the area... it's just been a low hanging haze that has people breathing with difficulty and wondering how in the hell China deals with air quality issues daily. That should clear up soon and I will begin, even keeping little notes on thoughts and conversations I have had waiting for it to clear up for the photo bit.

Wrapping It Up

I guess I was really trying to find something that made me think it was more significantly changed amongst the users. Really though, as I got to this conclusion bit I asked myself...
"Does it matter?"

If the answer is no, there has been zero change of any significance amongst the users. Do I walk away?
If I am prepared to walk away, do I deserve ANYBODY's time or attention to anything I plan to do?

So... maybe I don't see a ton of changes and think after a casual glance I still see users attacking users. Flagged outrage, vote swapping. But does that matter? SHOULD it matter?

I don't think so, people are going to do whatever they are going to do. The only thing I can control is what I am going to do, and I think that will be regular (hopefully) posts about my day with the people of Seattle... later people!

Interesting to hear a perspective like that from someone who was here a year ago, left and returned. I am here for two months now and pretty happy. I do see tons of problems but like @kevinwong said:

What matters is fun and freedom.

Sorry didn't get back to you sooner. I realized part way through... that it really is/was more about me.

The beautiful thing about steemit, is also the shittiest thing in the world about steemit. There's no real rules...

There is (mostly), and should be, room for, courtesy & respect. However.. there isn't any Terms of Service, and any "rules" you think you find aren't anything more than community agreed upon ones.

That's hard to fully grasp, but super cool

It seems to regulate itself automatically by finding common grounds and universal rules. Could probably be a good study case for anarchy models.

What matters is fun and freedom.

That's exactly where I wound up (internally) even as I wrote it. The only reason to care about most of those things is if I were to want to actively pursue it for profit.

Did that.... some moderate successes, but much more aggravation and anguish. Really settled on I'll do what I enjoy.

Have fun :) it's weird, for some the pursuit for profit works, for some, it's almost like a side-effect of not pursuing it :S
