A Chance Encounter With @skeptic
I kind of want to say to hell with the rules...
I kind of want to play.
I kinda wanna test myself...
so, don't stand in my way.
I ran into this account the other day. It went from trying to clarify... to trying to disprove, to flagging and then to removal (of myself from the situation.
Who here has run into @skeptic?
Here's something interesting. I followed him.... after I unmuted him.... and then unflagged him.
I am not 100% sure why.
OKAY, FINE I was going to look for any reason to flag his shit
What happened though, I stopped looking for reasons to. I mean, he IS a troll (or I am if you ask him), but he's.... unique here. I mean, he keeps posting and going after people, but it's not vulgar.
Look, I am 100% about a profile added (I am sure in the works) and what I consider more important... a badge system that serves as what I call at-a-glance-credentials, but are also just fun as hell to earn. If we get this I will do everything I can to make sure he gets to become eligible for the rarest of badges to earn....
Seriously, look at a couple of his posts... I think some of them are pretty good, and I would be hard to say any are terrible. I could honestly say I disagree with the shit he says a good portion, but he is doing his thing.
Here is the one I pulled up after our encounter, it may not have been the following post after, but the first I saw.
I liked it. By the time I got to the end I couldn't flag it... I couldn't exactly vote for it either, yet.
Tonight I am stoned. I am happy, and what I understand is this, he is happy doing what he is doing, he isn't vulgar about it, just persistent lol. He is..... challenging, and that is not a bad thing at all. I would say he is needed,

the reason you guys all like him is he is after the reason in the situation. you're intuition is telling you that the propaganda we've been exposed to our entire lives is not the truth. our brains instinctively try to ferret out at least a basic logic, based in the natural world. to find order in chaos. when you witness reason doing it's thing it gives you something more solid than propaganda to hang onto. in the madness of this troubled world, reason is a safe haven, a solid foundation. the ideas expressed only seem like trollishness because we have been conditioned to react to reason as though it were something to revile. keep watching. join us, in reason we can prosper.

I have a hard time fully agreeing with you, maybe just because of how it was handled. There was/is definitely part of that also though.
some who are steeped in reason are quick to jump on nonsense when they see it. there is a seeming vehemence to those not used to it. with reason and logic we learn to cut through the surface and come to the meaning. something brash or seemingly offensive does not necessarily contain offensive ideas. just because something seems nonthreatening, doesn't mean it is not a threat. just look at NPR. once one gets past the muted, soothing tone, there is to be found there, some of the most vile, existentially threatening propaganda i have ever witnessed. they do not believe in promoting facts. one of the most useful things i ever learned was to try to prove myself wrong. if my beliefs cannot withstand that kind of scrutiny, they do not deserve to exist. be true to yourself. you like his posts. you don't seem to know why. keep asking yourself until you get an answer. i can assure you, whatever his aim, he is not a troll.
Maybe I am being misunderstood. He is a troll..... I am not associating anything negative with that word though. I stated I don't see vulgar or rude, just in your face. I completely make room for him, and what he does. I just still call it trolling :)
I just want to say thanks for at least giving @skeptic post a chance. I have yet to see any of @skeptic post but will look at some soon.
This is the kind of thing I was talking the other day about and trying to explain to @dantheman
We don't have to agree with everyone, but we can tolerate and try to understand what it is that makes them "different" than us so to say.
For sure... it does need to not be something that's just done because you can.
"I" think that any system should be censorship resistant and not promote sanctioning. Any user with high reputation could completely ruin someone else in the community. That could be abused if someone doesn't like someone else based on whatever reason.
No one user's flag should have any more weight than someone else's in the community. Everyone's opinions are important no matter who you are, and as such, should have the same weight when flagging content. Letting the community truly decide if it should be flagged.
There could be a section for flagged content, that content can then be "un-flagged" if enough people think so.
