Portovenere: the most beautiful seaside village I have visited [ENG - ITA]

Portovenere is a small GEM that rises on the coast of the Liguria region in Italy. It is a small village of a few thousand people but the actual population is greater due to the high tourist flow that flows into the city, especially in the summer.

Portovenere è una piccola GEMMA che sorge sulla costa della regione Liguria, in Italia. E' un piccolo borgo di poche migliaia di persone ma la popolazione effettiva è maggiore a causa dell'elevato flusso turistico che affluisce in città, in particolar modo nel periodo estivo.

The village is located in the wonderful Tyrrhenian Sea and offers breathtaking panoramas from all the panoramic points of the city. Surrounded by the hills, the city is literally pampered by nature: it is possible to follow paths that start from the coast and arrive at the top of the hills, among which the Doria castle is located , which I already told you about in my previous article.

Il borgo sorge nel meraviglioso mar Tirreno e regala panoramiche mozzafiato un pò da tutti i punti panoramici della città. Circondata dalle alture, la città è letteralmente coccolata dalla natura: è possibile percorrere sentieri che partono dalla costa e arrivano in cima alle alture, tra le quali è situato il castello Doria, di cui vi ho già parlato nel mio articolo precedente.

Walking the quiet streets of the city is very relaxing but it also requires energy for its continuous ascents and descents. However, it is possible to rest by visiting the many tourist shops and not only that Portovenere is teeming with. Despite its small size, the city retains some very beautiful churches, including the Church of San Lorenzo or also called the Sanctuary of the Madonna Bianca, a church built in the 11th century AD.

Camminare per le tranquille strade della città è molto rilassante ma richiede anche energia per le sue continue salite e discese. E' possibile però riposarsi visitando i tanti negozi turistici e non solo di cui Portovenere pullula. Nonostante la sua piccola dimensione, la città conserva alcune chiese davvero molto belle, tra cui la Chiesa di San Lorenzo o anche chiamata Santuario della Madonna Bianca, chiesa costruita nel XI secolo d.C.

Una leggenda popolare racconta come nel periodo in cui la peste colpì Portovenere, un cittadino invocò dinnanzi un quadro della Maria Vergine la guarigione e la liberazione dalla piaga. Il quadro si colorò improvvisamente e di lì a poco la peste abbandonò la città e la popolazione venerà il dipinto, posto nella Chiesa di San Lorenzo, in onore della Madonna Bianca, a causa del colore della pelle.

La città di Portovenere mi è entrata nel cuore: la cortesia degli abitanti, la tranquillità del borgo e la bellezza della natura... Una volta entrati qui, non vorrete più andar via...
