Eyes is the king of the body says a Nigerian proverb. Every part of the body is important, but the eyes plays a vital role. As reliance on digital devices for leisure and work grows, the number of people with eyes problem also keeps increasing. Many people are suffering from digital Eyestrain. The rate at which we use smartphones shows that it has become part of us. Hardly will you find anyone in this 21st century without a mobile device. It’s obvious that we cannot overlook the importance of smartphones. However, the rays of light emitted from them cause more harm than good to our health. Since we cannot do without these devices, there should be a measure to protect our eyes from the blue light emission from the phone screen. I believe this was what prompted the developer of Red moon app to develop a blue ray filter.

What is Red moon app

When I first came in contact with the name red moon app, I couldn’t guess what the app was used for. Unlike several other apps that their purpose reflect in their names, Red moon is different. For example, anyone hearing Breathly app would know that they associate the name with breathing. Red moon sounds like an old movie of the gods where the Moon serves as their source of power. But what is Red moon app? It is an app developed to help people to suppress the blue light emitted from the phone screen. It filters blue light by changing the colour of the screen to a cool one. I think the reason for naming the app red moon is now clear. We can liken the bright blue light that the phone screen emits to the brightness of a Sun. Also, we can compare the cool and dim rays from the filter, with the light produced by the moon. So the name red moon is a match.

Various components

The developer of the Red moon app designed it simple for everyone to operate. The basic tools used to control the brightness of the phone screen are the colour pickers namely; colour, opacity, and darkness.

User must switch on the red moon button before using the app. Otherwise, every settings done on it will have no effect.

The red moon app filters in different ways. The default, dim only, and reading are the main filters that are set to a fixed point for users. I often choose any of these as my filter if I don’t enjoy setting a custom filter. When any of the three filters mentioned above is tampered with, it becomes a custom filter. Any setting done to get the desired screen colour by adjusting the colour pickers gives a custom filter. On my device, I have a series of custom filters on set which I use often

Red moon app also has a scheduling feature. With it, you can set the time you want any selected filter to be enabled automatically. I have this feature enabled on my device. Once I switch it on and set the start and stop time, or switch on the sunset to sunrise with my location, it works perfectly

What do I think about Red moon app?

Well, I’ve been using the app for more than a month, and if I would be honest, it has been a good experience. The main purpose of the app is justified with what it offers. Most times when I use my phone at night, I fall asleep on time compared to when the blue ray isn’t filtered. That said, I think I had an issue with the app which might be a bug. Each time my mobile data is switched on, or I’m connected to a WiFi, the app switches off after a while. That is frustrating as I would have to keep switching it on every time it goes off. Despite, it isn’t a big deal compared to the benefit I get from using it. I would be glad if the developer fixes the issue.

Comparison

Red moon app and Screen filter app are mainly used to reduce the brightness of Phone screen at night to prevent the eyes from blue ray emissions. However, they have differences. Red moon has default settings that can be used with no custom settings. The default, dim only, and reading features are already set for users consumption. Screen filter has no default filter. You can only set the desired filter and activate it for use. The schedule feature is also another thing that makes red moon app different. User can schedule a filter to automatically switch on at a certain time which isn’t available on Screen filter app. When I checked the number of downloads of both apps on google play store, I was surprised. I saw Screen filter app with 10,000+ downloads, and Red moon app with just 1,000+ downloads. Though there’s a year difference in-between their release, that isn’t enough reason for such download gap. I think there isn’t enough visibility about Red moon app. With the nice features and unique screen filters it offers, it’s supposed to have an edge over many of its counterparts. Creating awareness will help the app to go viral.

Conclusion

It is important to guide against anything that can harm us or adversely affect our health. I've been able to talk about Red moon app and how important it is. I noticed that the effect of blue rays from phone screen on our eyes is a gradual process. The health of any eyes exposed to it deteriorates gradually, so it give no sign until the effect is grave. There are some minor things that doesn't cost us much to do. Hit the link and download Red moon app now. Prevention is better than cure. Have a lovely week and happy Easter.

Otherwise, every settings done on it will have no effect.

Let me rephrase that: " Otherwise, all settings done will have no effect".

I would be glad if the developer fixes the issue

This sentence should read: "I would be glad if the developer fixed the issue"
