Transcoustic Dreams [original song]

in #music8 years ago (edited)

This is an acoustic guitar driven electronic instrumental I wrote and recorded over the holiday break. It has some electronic/dance music elements meshed with guitar.

The Process

I've strictly posted fiction here on Steemit and thought it would be a good time to expand my horizons a bit.

I'm not sure exactly how much time I spent on this tune but it was north of 15 hours over the past 7 days. My story writing took a backseat as the project took up pretty much all my free time, though I did make time to write for the Writers' Block sci-fi contest. I haven't made a song in around 2 years, though I have continued to play guitar during that time, so this was a nice return to a long forgotten hobby.

Enter new guitar:

This beauty is the Yamaha TransAcoustic LS-TA which I purchased around 2 months ago. It has a great tone, but the main feature is a built-in reverb/chorus sound system right inside the guitar. With it enabled you get a beautiful sound coming straight from the guitar, no amp or other effects required, just 2AA batteries. But I didn't use this feature for the recording process.

I plugged the acoustic straight into my BOSS GT-10 guitar effects processor, and then from the GT-10 to my PC via USB:

I didn't use any of the GT-10 effects either, just put it on the bypass setting. I used FL Studio for recording and sequencing the song and adding all the effects. The software synths I used were Gladiator (the 80s sounds and strings) and Harmless (mostly for the bass). For mastering the track I used iZotope Ozone 7 with EQ matching.

Here is how the project looked on my dual monitor PC:

The Inspiration

I set out wanting to record something with my new acoustic, pure and simple. The melody came to me playing around with the Cadd9 and Em7 chords, which are the intro/verse chords. Once I had the verse and chorus I sat down at the computer and started recording guitar tracks to a simple 4/4 beat. The track evolved naturally from there.

Hope you enjoy it!

Thank you @clivemartin. A sax in the mix might work quite well, just imagining it now, would be cool :)

That would be cool :)... I'll see about writing more music, I haven't done much lately but I'm starting to feel inspired.

good work @cizzo, I like what you're doing keep it up

Thanks @lanmower!
I went with a moog style bass for this one :)

(a nice rolling trance kick and 303/virus bassline could be nice)
