Heart and Mind; Mortal Enemies?

Source
It is often a topic of discussion on which one you should use. Should I follow my heart or should I think logically? Many people will stand for one over the other. Some people who follow their hearts can end up pretty happy, but the logical will say it's foolish. Although sometimes people who often think with their brain will say if their heart is screaming something at them, they'll listen and often be happy. Some people though aren't so fortunate in following the heart. Some might find rejection or results they were not wanting. Some people let it take too much control and it's so much more difficult for those with mental disorders or disabilities!

I myself, have several types of anxieties and years of trust issues that I can feel like it's safe to say that the heart and mind do not get along on most things depending on the severity of the underlying issues. It can cause many things to be taken the wrong way or reacted to inappropriately. Sometimes it can cause a lot of stress as the mind will try and trick you into believing something you know isn't true about a person. It can be rather tiring, and I'm sure I'm not the only person to ever experience these things.

I've posted a few times on Heart Virtues and these essentially are steps to thinking more with your heart than with your mind but to the goal of the two thinking in harmony. I may be going a little far to say the mind and heart are mortal enemies, but even those who don't have mental issues are basically programmed by media and society daily to believe that the cruel will win. You need to crush some skulls to get to the top, and a bunch of other pretty crumby ideals. If you bathe yourself in these headlines and people on a daily basis, do you think your mind is still your own or can you see that you're being influenced by what is around you? You need to be able to step out of these things and hear your heart.

I wrote not too long ago about how the brain can try to hinder us just out of habit! And how we all have this gut feeling through our inner connections and they do show some proof that you can either learn to work with both or just trust in one, but the fact of the matter is emotional control. I've mentioned in the past while talking about the heart virtues how important this is in gaining control of yourself. The biggest thing on these heart virtues is:
It signified a new area of focus: the human heart and the transformative virtues that it—in concert with the mind—could transmit.
I could go on and on about the benefits of listening to the heart over the mind or vice-versa, but the key we all need is for them to work together in harmony. Not having your heart know everything is okay while your mind screams terrible things at it. Or having a calm mind but a broken heart. A person cannot work to their fullest to bring light to themselves and the world if their inner self is broken or in conflict. We all need to keep trying and pushing forward.

I think there is a song called listen to your heart.
Sure is!
The struggle is real as some might say
Fostering an enlightened mind and noble heart are crucial to entering God's kingdom, but even above them is the guidance of God above and before our own limited perception.
