"Iowa Farmhouse"

I found this abandoned house just a few miles from where I grew up in Iowa. I can't understand why people just walk away from properties like this. I mean, this house was perfectly livable at one time and valuable so why not sell it? Why just walk away and let the house deteriorate and become worthless? I don't get it.

Great watercolor! I always wonder the same thing about abandoned buildings. Wish they could tell the story! My great uncle played the banjo, and he always livened up family gatherings when I was a kid.

Very nice... I really appreciate the way it's "slightly hidden," which seems so appropriate for an abandoned building.
I guess people walk away from things all the time; around here it's boats-- they suddenly "appear" in back yards and in marshlands, overgrown with vines and plants. At some point they really meant something to someone... and now all we're left with is the slight sadness of entropy.

Maybe in a future post you can play something for us. I like bluegrass music. In the past I visited Texas and Louisiana regularly and went to bars where the played it. I even bought a CD with music of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. I am going to play it tonight I think. So much joy!

@rolf.bakker Just thought of this today: IMHO the very best Bluegrass instrumental band was Country Cooking. They disbanded long ago and went their separate ways. Pete Wernick (banjo), Tony Trischka (banjo), Russ Barenberg (guitar)...I found them on Spotify today. They were grrrrrrreat!!!

Cool, but it doesn't have banjo! LOL You just gotta listen to Pete and Tony do their double banjo thing!
Oh, and I learned how to play from Pete Wernick's books, and he's a good guy from what I know. We have written back and forth and he seems very down to earth and cool. They call him Dr. Banjo! 😎
