Metal Weekend - Inspiration from Steemit

in #music6 years ago

I was having trouble coming up with a theme for @detlev's #MetalWeekend until I saw the post by @steevec. He had some great finds from metal bands around the world. I thought, "What a great idea!" None of the songs I chose are in English, but you don't need to know their language to rock out.

BABYMETAL - Karate (2016)
I like BAND-AID, but I'm partial to BABYMETAL. I was introduced to them through wrestling. Karate was one of the theme songs for the NXT TakeOver: The End ....of the Beginning WWE Network show in June 2016. Unlike BAND-AID, the women in BABYMETAL don't play instruments. They are backed up by a band while they belt out the lyrics only in Japanese. The band does rock pretty hard though.

Aria - Rose Street (1987)
Aria are a band from Russia that had their heyday in the 1980s. They were dubbed as "Russian Iron Maiden". You can definitely hear the influence in their songs. I remember finding Aria after Gorky Park came out with their Bang video on MTV in 1989. I was shocked that there was heavy metal in Russia.

Transmetal - Killers (1989)
Transmetal is probably Mexico's most well-known metal band. I was lucky enough to get my hands on their early albums through the Mexican record shops in Detroit. These record shops specialized in Mexican music genres like Cumbia, Norteño, and pop, but they always had a tiny section for Mexican rock and metal. Sometimes there would be three tapes, sometimes as many as six. Transmetal had a great 80s death metal sound.

This post is a little late, but it's never too late to crank some metal. Rock on!!!!!
