I stopped using any toothpaste with fluoride when I had kids. I made sure their toothpaste didn't have fluoride too. When you have children you want whats best for them so you look into these things.
And yes, in Japan we use Xylitol. They even have Xylitol gum I chew occasionally.
It doesn't even help on your teeth. Acid damages the enamel of your teeth, and table sugar feeds the bacteria that damage it. Rinse stuff like lemon juice off your teeth, and do not consume table sugar. Do animals brush their teeth? Nope. They don't eat the crap we eat though either. ;-)
